Hi,
i am living in Europe and i have Topline 8 remote(URC8850 , trusting to hifi-remote.com),
i found this forum and http://www.hifi-remote.com
could be very useful for me to force my remote to do it's job, but i am a bit confused now: majority of information is concerned to US models of remotes from OFA, is there some clear correspondence between US and European models (i.e some kind of table, for example URC 8780 (US model Home Theater Plus) is URC8550 (European model Topline 8)). And what is the difference ( except names)between US and Europe models?

The big difference is in the selection of setup codes they chose to build into each model. They left out setup codes in each region that they thought corresponded to devices not sold in that region.

It wouldn't help you much to know which US model is most similar to your European model. Most of the commands are the same across models whether those models are similar or not. Many commands are undocumented in most of the models in which they occur, so definitely look at hifi-remote to find commands that are missing from your documentation, but don't worry about whether they're from a similar model, just try them.

Just to add to John's comments, the Topline series is most similar to the US "Producer 8" series.

The URC-8550 doesn't have learning or RF, so the closest US remote that matches that is the URC-8080.

The wording used in the on-screen menu system is slightly different in the European models, than what's used in the US versions, but like John said, the functionality is very similar.

One big advantage that the 8550 has over the US versions is that it is modem-upgradeable.

If you really want to maximise this remote's usefulness to you, you'll get yourself a JP1 cable, that way you can add your own custom-made setup codes to the remote's memory. There is even an "extender" available for this remote, which allows even more customisation.
