If you change the new sony from AV2 to AV1 mode, then yes the 1994 would control it.

To get the discrete component inputs on the newer sets you will definitely need a JP1 cable and an upgrade. Most of the commands are on TV_0250 but the aspect and component inputs use a different sub-device code that is not present in any setup code for the 15-1994 (or any other remote AFAIK)
