I have tried learning the On/Off codes into my learning Radio Shack 15-1994 remote but it does not recognize the IR signal and will not learn them. Has any one found a way around this for a NEC PG9+ CRT projector?

Wes,
There is a Pronto ccf file here at RC for a PG9 and some other NEC CRT projectors and they all seem to use the same command set. It is Device=NEC1:24.247, OBC=8 is On, and OBC=20 is Off or Power toggle depending on the model.
There is no built in setup code for this in a 1994, but you could easilty do it with a device upgrade but that would require a JP1 cable.
More importantly there is no reason the 1994 shouldn't be able to learn these commands other than:
1) Bad batteies in the OEM remote or the 1994 (the #1 culprit for learning problems)
2) OFA remotes have a limited learning capacity for a total of around 20 to 30 commands and you had learned too many other commands before you tried to add the projector.
3) You made some mistake in the learning process or the remotes were too close or too far away, interference with flouresecent lighting, etc.
4) You forgot to put the aluminum foil over your head ;-)
I would go the JP1 route since you can save your learning memory for something else and take advantage of a large library of commands that may not even be available on the OEM remote, if useful.
If you go that route, here are the available commands. Keep in mind these are from a variety of models and not all commands may work and it is possible that some of these will get you in a service mode or reset alignment. So use at your own risk:

Well I think you hit it correctly with #4) You forgot to put the aluminum foil over your head ;-)
I tried it again on another RS remote and it worked. I went back to my theater 15-1994 and worked with it again and finnaly got it to learn. I think the batteries might be low in the NEC set up remote! Thank for the reply!

Like Jon said, you can only learn about 24 or so buttons total before the learning memory is full, so you might want to consider adding a new code for the projector using JP1. If you ask Jon nicely he might even create the upgrade for you! :) Rob [Link: hifi-remote.com]
