Is it possible to modify RS’s new remote 21-2117 to control X10 modules directly? This remote does transmits both RF/IR frequencies at the same time, however the RF doesn’t control X10 modules, but only to its RF extender.

I really don’t want to purchase a separate IR543 IR controller since 2 of my lights that I want to control by X10 are on 2 separate electrical “phases” (house circuit). I use 2 transceivers to correct this problem instead of building a coupler in the fuse panel.

Is there a discrete code that I can use on the 21-2117, use a JP1 cable & add patch to the remote, or can I modify it (hardware wise) to control the X10 modules on-the-fly? If not, is there an IR to RF converter that can send RF signals to the transceivers (TM751) to control my lights?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Sorry about the typo, I meant a RadioShack 15-2117 remote.

No, you can't modify the 2117 to control a x10 transceiver, but you can build a IR to RF converter. Do a search in the x10 forum for posts by Dave Houston.

You probably could modify the 15-2117 to send the RF signal used by X10's RF-to-X10 converter, but the hardware mod hasn't been invented yet, so you (or someone else) would have to come up with the schematics first. Once complete, I'm sure we could come up with an upgrade that you could load via JP1 that would work it.

Once challenged, I am sure the JP1 folks will rise to the occation.

The 15-2117 does send X-10 codes via RF to its base station. The problem is that the base station doesn't have a data interface to the AC line, so the X-10 codes go nowhere except out of its IR emitter. (I have the same problem with the 15-1925 base station.) The IR to X-10 box is your only choice, whether it's the IR543 or the base station for the 15-1919 remote control which does have the interface, but may not be on the same RF channel as the 15-2117. (My 15-1925 won't talk to my 15-1919 base station via RF.)
