I believe I've read before that you can directly enter an EFC, but I can't remember where. Does anyone know how to do it?

To rephrase the question (in the form of the expected answer).

Q: What steps do I need to follow to send an EFC from the remote?

A: 1) Hold down the magic button till the LED blinks twice
2) enter 9 7 1
3) enter the 4 digit device code
4) enter the 3 digit EFC

(the remote should have sent the command once the above steps are completed)

Thank you,
John Flegert

EFCs don't work with all setup codes, but if they work, this is how:

1) Press the magic key (short, for just one blink).
2) Enter the first two digits of the EFC.
3) Aim the remote toward the device.
4) Press the third digit of the EFC and (if the function might require a long signal) hold it for the duration you want the signal sent.

Note there is a timeout (several seconds) between steps, so you don't have time to reread the instructions or recheck the EFC number between steps.

John, thank you for the response. Are you sure about this? This seems a little strange to me. How would the remote know you mean to send an EFC instead of a shifted/stacked digit press.

Thanks again,
John

Yes I'm sure. I've done that a LOT.

To shift a digit, you need TWO short presses of magic before the digit. To shift any other key just requires one short press of Magic before it.
