Some newbie questions after looking through the search…

I had a trusty RS 15-1919T (IR-RF Universal Remote) for many years, operating my audio visual equipment and plug’n play X-10 lights. However, the old remote does not run my new equipment. (Specifically, a Hughes DirecTV/TiVo HDVR2.) So I picked up an RS 15-2117 and started programming. All the audio and video works great.

It says it operates home automation and has codes for X-10, but it does not have a plug’n play button. Will this remote dim my X-10 lights like my old remote?

If not, how can I run a few X-10 lights as well as the newer equipment?

Thanks!

Well, I searched a few more places here on these message boards. I found some remotes at SmartHome.com, then I looked at the requirements for X-10 control on those without the plug’n play button.

I had no idea that the X-10 transmitter also received the IR signal (they call it a Command Console, #4040.) The 15-1919T has a console that is the same, so I placed it correctly and now I have light dimming control again.

Thanks anyway, all!

Wait a minute, the console that comes with the 1919 remote, it may look like the IR543(4040), but it doesn't perform like one. For one thing, its a emitter of IR sigals, it takes the RF signal from the 1919 remote, then gives off a IR signal. Where the IR543 accepts IR signals. Have you really tried it?

Did you know that the 15-1919 is upgradeable over the phone, so they could add the TiVo code for you!

TiVo = VCR/0618
X10 = CD/0167

edmund, I just tried it again and I swear the old 4040-looking box needs a line of sight to the remote or the replacement box. The red LED illuminates on that old box when it sees the signal and the room light dims or switches. Cover the IR emitter panel and it doesn’t work.

The Robman, I did know about the 1-800 number but was not sure TiVo would work on the old trusty 15-1919. For one, it seems that the 1919 just doesn’t have enough buttons to really work it efficiently. Second, my buttons were so worn, I couldn’t read any of them! And I replaced the rubber button sheet/panel once already. You know, now that I think of it, how old is that 1919? It may be as old as my first generation RCA DSS receiver.

So far, the 2117 looks like it will be a great update for my remote needs. Thanks again for the replies and information!

The 15-1919 dates from around 1997 I think, I paid $70 for mine back in the day! The 15-2117 is a great remote, so I expect you'll be quite happy with it, especailly if you go the JP1 route.

Yeah, mid to late 90s sounds right. I remember when I replaced my Memorex something-8 (CP-8?) with the 1919... it was like a whole new day!

The 15-1919 base station also receives IR. I'm using one to receive the IR from my 15-1925 so that I can pass the X-10 codes onto the AC line. (The 15-1925 RF is on a different frequency than the 15-1919.)
