Er ... I have just bought a URC 9990 and have tried to download an update for my Yamaha DSP-A595a Home Theatre Amp. The unit just does not recieve anything when the sound is played .... but then I got thinking - how can a magnetic coupling 'receiver' receive anything from a PC 'magnetically shielded' speaker? Am I missing something ? If not, how can I update my device (I also only have a small digital phone with only a small handset)? I'd be glad for any advice.

What's a urc9990? Was that a typo for 8910/9910 (rf version of 8910)? Both the 8910 and 9910 are "modem" upgradeable; can be updated via sound files (.wav files). Where did you get the .wav file? If you have a "bookshelf" speaker with the right type of plug you might try using that. Alternatively you could possibly use a "loose" stereo or auto stereo speaker with the wiring and correct plug setup plugged in to your sound card as a "temporary" measure.

THe URC-9990 is marketed as the 'Mosaic' over here in the UK, but is virtually the same as the 'Director' that Radio Shack sells in the US. I went to the OFA web site to get the file, but it didn't give me the option to 'save' the file ... it just played it from within the Web page. I presume it is a .wav file, so I'll try to find it on my PC drives, burn it to a disk, and play it on my portable stereo. But thanks for the response ... my last resort was to dismount one of my audio system speakers (a pain) and fix it up to the PC speaker lead, because there is no 'line in' to my portable.

Now I'm frustrated. I had to take one of my Mission speakers off the wall to upgrade the remote using the internet, but codes for only two Amps were available, both of which did not work. Downloaded 'Amp/Tuner' codes - same effect. Will anyone put me out of my misery and tell me how to get my remote to talk to my A/V Amp (pretty please) ? I have already sent an emial to OFA, but am not holding my breath for a reply.

Cheers,

John

I am pretty sure that RCVR/0176 will do most functions of your receiver. Set it up and see if you get most of what you're looking for. If not, give tech support a call and they can give you an upgrade over your telephone.
