All,

I just acquired a 15-2116 from my local RS store. I am finding that it emits a low buzz for about 5 seconds everytime I press any button. It is not loud but definitely noticeable.

Is that expected?

The buzz is coming from the transformer that powers the backlight, if you turn the backlight off the buzzing will stop.

My 2117 does the same thing, and it is indeed tied to the backlight. Is there a way to turn off the behavior where the backlight comes on when any key is pressed? I don't see that feature in the manual.

On my 15-2116, the backlight button (located next to the program/setup button) is a toggle - press it to turn the backlight on, press again to turn it off. I believe the 15-2116 and the 15-2117 are essentially the same remote, so try toggling the backlight button to turn it off.

Not dumb, just uninformed. Sometimes the simplist answer is the hardest to find, especially when you're looking in the manual!
