I picked one of these up for my Mom today at RS. It was a deal (I thought) at $12.99. WELL, it won't do diddly crap right. I have a Kameleon (on ebay) that works the cable box & TV just fine. I input the SAME CODES in the 15-2103, & it refuses to work the Scientific Atlanta 3100HD cable box, & the enter funcions for the TV Mitsubishi WS-55589 won't work. My Kameleon worked both of her units perfectly. Also, the damn 12-2103 wouldn't learn codes on either OEM remote! Anyone know what gives? I have a HTM MX-500 currently. My Wife wouldn't let me keep the Kameleon for the bedroom, drats.

Well, the short answer is "for $13, what do you expect", but seriously, the 15-2133 is a much newer remote with a much newer setup code database, so it's quite possible that the codes are simply not in the 15-2103. If you tell me what codes you are using in the 15-2133 I can tell you for sure if those codes are in the 15-2103.

As for the learning thing, the 15-2103 should be perfectly capable of learning most IR signals that you are likely to throw at it. Have you tried learning from the 15-2133 instead of the OEM remotes? Just a thought.

You have two choices. RS has a great return policy. If you don't want to hack the 2103, take it back with the purchase receipt and they will give you your money back or let you apply the money to the purchase of another remote. You'll probably get more up to date built-in device codes with a 15-2126 or 15-2115 if you don't want to pay extra for a 15-2116.

Choice two? Hack the 2103 with JP1.

I take it you don't want me to verify if the codes you were using in the 15-2133 are really in the 15-2103 or not then.

As the Robman said; "What do you expect for $12.99?"

I got a 15-2013 the other day just to see what it would do. Right now, I gotta' say that the 2013 is the biggest bargain of all the cheap remotes. I've got a fairly complicated component line-up and the 2103 could handle everything I needed it to control for my auxilliary TV (which accesses the main system via an IR extender.)

All the codes but one were preprogrammed and the 2103 had enough learning capacity to accept 10 essential commands from the missing component. I overlaid the learned commands on one of the pre-programmed positions so it actually controls 6 components. Coupled with using three of the macro buttons as a source switcher that's a LOT of control flexibility.

This would be a neat remote at $20. with it's switchable backlighting and an ample logically arranged key layout. For $13. it's a steal!
