Hi all

I have a neighbor that I purchased a rs remote to control his modest setup. Problem is he has a White Westinghouse dvd player and I can't seem to find a code for it. I figured one of the GURU's on here could help me out and make me look the big guy next door. Any help would be grealty appriciated.

A JP1 cable is a good investment for almost anyone trying to customize these remotes for himself. If you're customizing these remotes for other people, you should consider a JP1 cable a necessity.

Maybe someone who knows something about a White Westinghouse DVD will answer. Maybe not. (I never heard of it before and I don't see it mentioned in the RC archives nor the JP1 group.)

With an OFA or RS learning remote and a JP1 cable, you could learn one signal from the original remote and download to your PC and have IR.EXE decode it. Then any JP1 expert (regardless of knowing nothing about White Westinghouse) could tell you which built in setup code, if any, will support it. Or maybe tell you which common (under some other name) DVD it matches, so you could load (via) JP1 an upgrade that someone else already created.

If that doesn't work, you can learn and download all the signals (in batches if they don't fit all at once in the remote) and create your own upgrade.

That would work if I wa using my remote the 15-2116 but unfortunatly the remote the neighbor has does not have learning ability and does not have a jp1 connector. I am just hoping I can come up with a code that will work!

1) What model RS remote are you asking about? An answer you get in this forum would apply only to RS remotes designed by UEI (most of which have JP1 connectors). RS also has remotes not designed by UEI, in which case the UEI setup code (even if you found it) wouldn't help you.

2) If it is a UEI remote and there is a UEI setup code, then learning to your 2116 and downloading to IR.EXE is still the best way to find out the UEI setup code.

The trouble with WW DVD players is that none of us (including UEI) know what signals they use. I tried to help someone with a WW in the past and he was **this** close to sending his remotes to UEI so they could capture the signals and upgrade his remote, but then he bottled out, so we still don't know what the signals are.

Like John said, a JP1 cable is an EXCELLENT investment for anyone with a JP1-capable remote like the 15-2116. In this case, what you would do is stroll over to your neighbor's house and learn some of the buttons from his WW remote using your 15-2116. Then you'd come back home and download the memory using the JP1 software. This would tell you precisely what protocol and device codes that it uses. Then you would give this info to us experts and we would tell you if there's a setup code that's close enough that you can use it.

It's quite possible that this player uses the same signals as some other device, but uses different button codes, in which case, even without JP1, you could program the player using advanced codes. This was the case with the Apex AD600A DVD player, which uses the same signals as the TV/0030 code, and the Raite AV715, which uses the same signals as the TV/0027 code.

The model is RS 15-2102 it is a 4-1 universal remote. Since this dvd player is not mine I am not sure if it is worth it to invest in a JP1 cable since my remote does everything that I want it to do. I just thought that there might be a code availbe and I would have to do is punch it in on his remote. Oh well I really appriciate all of your help.

Thanks

If you think your friend could stand to be without his WW remote for about a week total, I'd like to borrow it so that I can capture the signals and we'd know once and for all what signals it uses. Then if there is a similar code in the 15-2102, I will be able to tell you which one.
