I purchased the 4640 remote to work with my MX-500. While I was purchasing this, I noticed that OFA model 81XX(Something) had the setup code for manufacturer Timeless under the Cable Controllers. Unfortunately they don't list that brand on this remote. Can someone who have this Setup code, please post it here. Another quesiton is, since it was not listed in the manual, will I be able to use the code?

Thanks all.

ok, I was able to find the code for my cable box which was not originally on my list of codes that came with the remote. When I entered the code, it didn't control my cablebox.

Does anyone know if I purchase the remote that has this brand on it's list, if it will work? I thought that as long as you input the code it would work.

A company that makes cable boxes might use different IR codes on different models of cable box, but more often they use a single code.

Does Timeless make cable boxes? A company that puts their brand name on the front of some other company's cable box is much more likely to change IR codes from one model to the next, because they probably change manufacturers from one model to the next.

If it says Timeless (which I never heard of, BTW) in the list of cable box brands for a universal remote. That means they support SOME model of cable box sold with that brand. It doesn't mean they support every model.

Examine your cable box for other labels. If you find that some other company made it, you may have an easier time figuring out the right setup code for it based on the company that made it.

Thanks for the reply john. I'm going to check the box and see if any other company name is listed. I noticed that this brand is never mentioned, except on higher up OFA remotes. I went ahead and swapped my remote today to the next model up that has this brand listed and hoping that it would work.

What model remote is that "next model up"?

Earlier I forgot to ask the more important question of what setup code are you trying.

John,

I picked up the 5705 from CC which had Timeless listed as one of the cable converters devicees. It worked! I guess it does matter whether they list a particular brand or not. I was also worried that the discreet codes would not work with this remote since I've never seen it mentioned but my MX-500 picked it up OK.

Now if I can just find discreet codes for my Hughes DirecTV receiver and the cable box...

Thanks again
