I have a Cinema 7 learning remote (the 7800) and I'd like to keep using it. JP1 programming is out since I'm a Mac user. Everything was working great until my 15 year old Sony receiver started emitting a horrible whine unless I unplugged it every hour. I flirted with the idea of a whole new home theater system, but I think a new receiver would be sufficient.

Can anyone suggest a current, moderately priced receiver that is compatible with the Cinema 7 codes? My needs are very simple and most of the lower priced receivers seem to all have the same features - so why not pick one that's compatible with my remote. I could always use learning but I'm running out of learning memory.

I looked through the past messages but most of the specific models that were mentioned are no longer being sold. One that looked promising was the Yamaha HTR-5280 - that model is no longer sold but there is a HTR-5540 that's a current model. Anyone know if those both work the same way in terms of codes? Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Karen
