Got my URC-8910 recently.

Some problems !!
Any help is appreciated

1. I can not control my 7 yr old JVC VCR (HR A62V). Does anyone one here know code for this remote and how to upgrade it if is not in the library? I have tried both 0067 and 0041 given in the manual. I called the tech support and the rep. told me the code is 0067 and he was not sure what I should do if it does not work. I have tried all manual codes and nothing works! I can use my Sony Recv remote to control the VCR I don't know why this one does not work.

a. Does anyone know code for this remote for the JVC HR-A62V VCR?
b. If the code is not there in One For All library , how to upgrade it? ( I got bunch of codes from the tech support guy - i have to try them tonight , but if they are not there in database what should I do?)

( I don't have JP1 cable yet. I'm planning to get one, if absolutely required )

2. The manual says I can use any key for learning. (Except program keys and device keys). I tried using a number key and it did not work - it gave me 'invalid' error.

Any comments on this? Has anybody tried the same?

3. Can we use any key other than 3 macro keys to store macros? (OK I have to try this one out but just asking...Manual does not say anything about this )

Thanks !!

Code 0067 is the JVC A-code, JVC vcr's have two codes, the OFA code for the B-code is 0008, which isn't in the 8910. You have a choice of having the 8910 upgraded with code 0008, or change your vcr to accept the A-code. I think it's easier to change your vcr. Once done, code 0067 will work. To change, load code 0067 into the 8910, then unplug the vcr from the wall, plug it back in, press power on the 8910, or any button. Now it should work with code 0067. You need to change your oem remote too;

1. While holding the MBR SET(A/B) button
2. press 1
3. press stop

b. If the code is not there in One For All library
, how to upgrade it?

It can be upgraded via a WAV file played through the PC's speaker or played by OFA customer support over the phone (I think in the US they prefer to play the WAV file over the phone rather than give you web access to a copy of the WAV file to play yourself).

It can be upgraded more easily by JP1 cable.

( I got bunch of codes from
the tech support guy - i have to try them tonight
, but if they are not there in database what should
I do?)

Assuming he just told you the setup codes (rather than installed them by playing a WAV file into your 8910 over the phone) then they will be in the 8910's database, because OFA tech support would be selecting only from the list of setup codes in your model.
The important question is what to do if they're in the 8910 but none of them control your device.

( I don't have JP1 cable yet. I'm planning to
get one, if absolutely required )

It's not absolutely required. It's just much easier. With JP1 it's easier to install an upgrade (than by WAV file). More important: With JP1 it's easier to find out what upgrade you need.

3. Can we use any key other than 3 macro keys
to store macros?

Yes. Most keys can be used to store macros. Device keys (TV, VCR, etc.) can't be macros without JP1. I don't know whether digit keys can be macros without JP1.

JP1'ers often learn signals to the number keys when setting up a new device. (Then they create a new setup code and delete the learned ones). The most common reason for an error when learning is running out of learning space.

First Thanks to all ! My remote is now in very good shape. All other individual remotes are in moved from sofa to a basket.

I had to change the code for my VCR. Now it accepts 0067. Somehow the code VCR got changed to some other code (which was working with my Sony Recv. remote) and the original JVC renote din't work either. After following the procedure to change the code to 0067 , 8910 as well as original JVC remote started working ! I had no idea that you can change the code in the device! I still can not get 'Menu' on JVC VCR to work by either remote so something is still screwed up as far as the device code is concerned.

Now most of the problems related to 8910 are solved !
I can also program number keys. I must be doing something wrong before.
Some more questions:

1. In home theater mode can you program 'Power' button with a Macro? I want to switch on (and off) all the components. I tried to program the Micro (RCVR Power DVD Power TV Power , it shows success, but there is no effect after pressing the power button. The problem is the power button in all other modes (TV, RCV and DVD) are changed ! All these buttons now can switch on and off all three conponents and I don't want that. I could undo the effect by prgramming a null micro on the power key in one mode( select the micro key (POWER), select again till it shows success).

For now I'm using GUIDE button in HT mode to do the power on/off job. But I would like to use power if possible.

2. Can the micro buttons be programmed separately in different modes (TV, DVD etc)? my impresion was (after reading the manual) that it can be done but after programming a micro(M1) in DVD mode it erased the micro in TV mode. Both micro sequences were intended to do the same job (put TV in widescreen mode) but the DVD micro would retun to DVD mode after it is done. Now in TV mode it also returns back to DVD mode. May be I'm missing something or may be I forgot what I did - I have to reconfirm tonight. But just wanted to know if someone knows about this.

No. The Power key is totally dead in HT mode. Even with JP1 we don't (yet) have a way to fix that.

2. Can the micro buttons be programmed separately
in different modes (TV, DVD etc)?

There are some advanced JP1 methods that let you program macros individualy by device mode. Without JP1 there is just one macro (for all modes) per key.

Key Moves are individual by device mode and key moves override macros, so you can have a macro in just some modes by overriding it with key moves in every other mode.

my impresion
was (after reading the manual) that it can be
done

What phrase in the manual made you believe that? Is that in an online manual in which you can give us page number or other specific location?
