Kind of an odd question.

On my remote, to switch inputs fo rmy reciever, I need to "hold down the button."

For instance, if my reciever is turned off, I need to push and hold the input 1 button to power it on and switch to SAT, or hold down the power button to turn it on. A button press wont work, has to be held down. This was the way it was on my original Philips remote, also.

Because of this, I cant get the macros to work. Power on wont work, because the macro sends a button-push and not a button-hold...

any way around this?

With a JP1 cable the solutions to that problem are possible but more difficult than typical JP1 customization of your remote. (You would need to ask for specific help in the YAHOO JP1 group).

Without JP1, I don't think there is any solution.

I should try this instead of asking, but I'm at work right now and can't. Would the signal duration be extended if it is the last one in the macro and the key is continuously held down?

No.
That is a feature coded in some of my extenders. It is not a feature built into any of the remotes.
(Installing an extender requires JP1 and requires having a model of remote for which someone has written an extender).
