Hello to everyone!

I just bought Cinema 7 hoping that I could substitute it for my damage McIntosh amplifier remote. Unfortunately the instruction manual doesn't have any device codes for McIntosh and the code search function didn't help either. It seems strange as it clearly says on the back cover of the manual that the remote is compatible with McIntosh.
Any ideas how to solve my problem?
I would really appreciate your help.

P.S.
I tried the three digit code (251) which I found on OneForAll website, but it doesn't work either...

Even though it is listed as a 3 digit code, you'll have to enter it as a 4 digit by adding a leading 0 to the number. Try 0251.

Assuming you've done that, and still don't have it working, there is only one other option...

One by one, try every device code listed for every amp in the manual. I know this seems like a waste of time since you've already done the code search, but I've personally found a device code this way that would work when the code search method had failed. The fact is that sometimes name brands have other manufacturers produce their models. If you're lucky, one of the other amp device codes will work. For example, I found a Pioneer code was needed to run my old OPTIMUS receiver. AND I found a Samsung code that ran my GO-Video receiver.

Give it a try. It should only take a few minutes.

BTW, you are very right about the McIntosh name being on the cover, and nowhere in the the device listings. Shame on ONEforALL if you don't find a code that works!

Good luck,

Dave ;-)

Well, I ran code search again, tried 0251 and even tried every possible device code for the listed amps and receivers. And guess what? It didn't work... Do you think that there's still hope I could get it working?

The only hope left is if you have the original remote and can use it to teach the codes to the Cinema. Since you already said your original remote is dead, then the last chapter is a sad one. ;-(

Look at Gerald's Cinema FAQ, mentioned in the forum before. He gives credit to someone at ONEforALL that has been very helpful, and perhaps you could email that person or call her for some last hope help. If she can't offer any, then ask her to have ONEforALL take McIntosh off the user manual cover in the future. Somewhere there's a law against deceptive advertising.

Alas... sometimes there aren't any codes. ;-(

Of course, I've been taught to look at every problem from as many points of view as possible.

What if... Your original remote is not broken, but your RECEIVER's IR sensor is? If you've got a video camera (or a web-cam) try looking at the IR lights thru the camera viewfinder as you press buttons on the remote. IR is visible to most CCDs and can be seen this way. If you see flashes as you press the remote buttons, then the problem is as I mentioned... with the receiver, not the remote. If this is true then perhaps the Cinema WAS able to signal your receiver.... but your receiver is blind.

Just a thought. OK, an odd one. A thought nonetheless.

Dave, thanks for your help! My original remote is dead for certain so I can't use it to teach the codes to the Cinema... :-(( I e-mailed the persons that Gerald's Cinema FAQ refer to. I can only hope they will be helpful to me too...

Thanks!

I e-mail Kim as my final resort. She tried her best to help me solve this problem but it looks like OneForALL didn't do a good job as far as McIntosh equipmnent. Kim gave me three codes: 0251, 0258 and 0619. I tried them but the remote doesn't accept them: the red light should blink twice after entering the code but it doesn't in case of the McIntosh codes.....
I guess OneForALL should take McIntosh from the list of supported devices....
