Hello, I need help..I punch in my learning codes for my dishplayer 7100 and the 6800 accepts them..but when I try that button it just flashes steadily for about 5-8 seconds. I reset the 6800 and tried again, same thing. Also can anyone tell me for sure if the 6800 will accept advanced codes...some say it will some say it wont.

thanks much,kerry

"Learning" is different than using advanced codes.

Using the SETUP 975 sequence will tell the remote that you want to teach it the IR command from ANOTHER REMOTE, which normally is the original that came with your device.

1 - Press the DEVICE button you want to learn a remote code into.
2 - Press and hold SETUP until the LED blinks twice.
3 - Enter 975. You should see two blinks.
4 - Press the button on the Cinema6 that you want your IR code learned into. The LED will blink rapidly for 5-8 seconds.
5 - While it is blinking, aim your original remote at the TOP of the Cinema and press the button on it you wish the code to come from. If successful, the LCD should stop blinking, then flash twice.

If you have additional commands to "learn" from your original remote, then repeat steps 4 and 5.
If you are done learning, then repeat step 2.

To enter ADVANCED CODES, use the 994 sequence. An advanced code will be a three digit code you got from oneforall, found on the www, or learned on your own could be used to add more features to the cinema6 for controlling your device.

1 - Press the DEVICE you want to program the advanced code into.
2 - Press and HOLD SETUP until the LED blinks twice.
3 - Enter 994. You should see two blinks.
4 - Press and release SETUP.
5 - Enter the 3 digit advanced code.
6 - press the button on the Cinema you'd like that advanced function programmed onto. If successful, you'll see two blinks. If not, you'll get one long flash of the LED.

That's it. "Learning" is different than using advanced codes. Don't confuse the two.

david thanks. I do understand the differance between the learning and advanced codes. The problem that i have is after i program the urc-6800...I go to use it and i get a steady blink for about 8-10 seconds and no response from my device. It does work my other equipment just fine. The equipment im having trouble with is my dishplayer 7100. The memory is not full I only use the learning for the dishplayer. I have heard of other people having trouble using the 6800 to control their dishplayer. Can you tell me for sure that the 6800 does have the ability to use advanced codes...i've been getting conflicting statements on weather it can or can't.

thanks dave.......kerru

I've used advanced codes on a 6800 to add tracking and speed selection for my vcr. Descrete mode selection for my receiver. And used advanced codes to add an eject key to the remote for my dvd player.

You can use advanced codes on any key on the 6800 except for device keys and the sleep key.

The only thing I don't think you can do, at least I haven't had it work. Is setup an advanced code for one device and then copy it to another device. The original function of the key you assigned the advanced code to will be copied, not the advanced code.
Either that or the advanced code is being copied but it doesn't work in the new device, but from my experimentation I think its the first possibility.

kerry johnson:

Your remote can use advanced codes. However, the remote has no valid device code (that I know of) that can handle the dishplayer. You need to use the learning feature for all of the keys.

Many people think that the learning feature is broken in their remote, but it's really just a matter of doing it correctly.

Re-read the learning instructions David B. posted here in the above reply and try it again.

Kerry,

You also have to TERMINATE the learning sequence by holding SETUP down until you see two blinks. The blinking you get when trying to USE the SAT device sounds exactly like the blinking you should get during the LEARN sequence.

Without seeing you remote, We can only go on the symptoms you describe to us. It is entirely possible that you've done everything right but your remote still doesn't work. The long blinking sequence might also be an ERROR condition for the Cinemas, but having seen no technical spec I can only guess. Either way, good luck getting it to work.

The long blinking sequence your talking about sounds like it might be the same thing I experienced after taxing the memory on my C7 trying to fit all the Dishplayer functions and a few for other components. Immediately after learning the last several buttons on to the C7 it began having a stroke where every key would emit a shuttering blink with no response on any component. I kept changing from device to device for a minute or so (I don't know if I was having an effect, but it was like kicking a coke machine) and eventually the C7 settled down and everythingg, including the last key learned worked. I thought erroneously that I had just leaned my last key possible, but went on to the next, and the next with success despite the stroking out effect.
Im not sure this is what your talking about but it may be.
