I have just purchased a URC-8811, and am wanting to know whether getting rechargeables would be worth it, or just sticking to Alkalines. It takes 4 AAA's.

How long do people reckon a set of fresh batteries last in a remote that'll get usage for a few hours a night?

Thanks,
Jonathan

If you aren't using the backlight, fresh batteries should last a couple years. If you are using the backlight, 3 to 6 months is more likely. (Of couse it's very hard to guess what you mean by used for a few hours. I assume you mean pressing about 10 buttons per commercial.)

I use rechargeable alkalines, even though there probably isn't a real cost savings. Nicads would be an unnecessary annoyance, since the self discharge rate would discharge them much sooner than the actual use would.

Thanks John,

I'll probably try a set of cheapish alkalines and wait and see what sort of life I get out of them.

Cheers,
Jonathan
