I bought a URC-8910 since OFA's website said it was "FULLY LEARNING". Yea, right...four friggin buttons. I need to control two ReplayTV units using unique codesets for each. I'm currently using the RC6a codeset with a different unit number for each and it works great with my Pronto in the Family Room. I need a remote for the bedroom, however, to duplicate this. The wife is not going to go for a $250 remote just for the bedroom! :)

I need to control...

Pioneer Elite Receiver
Two ReplayTV Units
Pioneer Elite DVD
Sony A50 DSS
Zenith TV

Everything except the TV is downstairs. I'm using the Pioneer Multi-Room setup for viewing in the bedroom.

Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced remote that can either learn all my remotes or can do RC6a? Can I reprogram one of my ReplayTV remotes via JP1 to control all of the above?

Thanks!

The manual is wrong about the learning; You aren't limited to four buttons; You can learn on almost any button. It sounds like the website was misleading about learning. You don't have nearly enough learning memory to support several devices with learning as your primary method. You MIGHT have enough for several built in devices with learning covering the exceptions.

Of course you can use JP1 to get complete support for all those devices easily with your 8910. I think the 8810 is better (more flexible JP1 support and doesn't have that stupid ring for arrow keys).

I know some Replay remotes can be customized with JP1 to do everything you mentioned. I'm not an expert on Replay remotes, so I couldn't say whether all Replay remotes can be (My guess would be yes).

Apart from the remotes that came with the 4000 series machines, all Replay remotes are JP1 compatible.

The remotes that came with the 2000 and 3000 series machines, and the Panasonic Showstoppers, are totally JP1 compatible and can be programmed to do what you want.

The very early Replay remotes, the ones that look like the Cinema 7 are not JP1 compatible.

The remotes that come with the new 5000 units are JP1 compatible, but there's not much you can do with them at this point. Maybe in the future someone within the JP1 group might develop some software to make them more universal, but that's not likely to happen soon.

Just FYI, the JP1 group was primarily founded by ReplayTV users.

Well, considering I got the 8910 for $20, I guess I'll go ahead and keep it and go the JP1 route. I'm always up for a new high-tech challenge! :)

One thing, though....how is the 8810 more "JP1 Flexible"?

Because I wrote an "extender" program for the 8810 (which would be harder to do for the 8910 and no one has yet).

The extender lets you put macros and key moves on keys that normally can't have them, it corrects design flaws in the home theater mode, it handles the fav key in a way most people (everyone who has commented on it) think makes more sense than the UEI design, increases capacity for key moves and macros, and lots more.
