I have the RS 15-1994 controlling a Samsung TV using device code 0060.

Everything works great expect the volume. On the original TV remote I can hold down the volume button and it increases (or decreases) the volume until I let go. I can't get the RS remote to do this. If I want to go up 10 units of volume, I have to press the volume button 10 times.

Is there a way around this??

Thanks

Without JP1, I think the only solution is to learn the vol+ and vol- keys from the original remote into the 15-1994.

The learned keys won't punch through, so if you need TV vol in more than TV mode you need to relearn the VOL keys in each device mode that needs them.

With JP1, you could create a device upgrade which has the same device and command numbers as TV/0060 but has the correct NEC characteristics. (Probably someone has already posted that upgrade, because this question has been asked before).

When you learn the signals (non JP1 solution) make sure you hold the orriginal remote VOL key for a long time during the learn process, so the 15-1994 has a chance to see the correct repeat characteristics of the signal.

Thanks for the reply.

I have learned the volume on the non-TV devices, but did not hold the button down during the learn process. I was unaware that the remote could learn a key being held down.

I do have access to a JP1 cable and appropriate software. Can you explain what you mean by "NEC characteristics"??

Thanks

The 15-1994 can't learn a key being held down (it doesn't learn how long you held the key). The 15-1994 does try to learn the repeat pattern of the signal. If you release the original key too soon the 15-1994 may learn the initial signal and fail to learn the repeat pattern and give exactly the symptoms you described (but for a different reason).

"NEC" is our name for a family of related infrared protocols. The 15-1994 has a general purpose routine that sends signals of that family. One input to that routine is a collection of bit flags that determine various characteristics that differ from one NEC protocol to another. If any of those are wrong, you get a basically working setup code with subtle malfunctions such as you described. For Samsung TV's, one of those bits is wrong in TV/0060 (I think TV/0060 is perfect for some other brand TV, just wrong for the Samsung TV's for which this issue has been discussed).

With JP1 you can create a new setup code changing any detail you want. For more information, join the Yahoo JP1 group and ask about fixing the repeat style of TV/0060.
