I am a newbie at this remote control stuff so let me start by apologizing if I am asking something obvious or stupid. I ran to the local Wal-Mart after our dogs saw fit to eat our original Dish/Echostar remote and was wondering if someone can help:
I managed to get this remote to function except in the following ways -- the Exit and Enter buttons do not work -- I am using code 0775 which was listed in the manual under Echostar. The others listed (1005, 0280) do not work. By not having these buttons, I am able to go to the onscreen guide or main menu and navigate up and down but cannot exit them, nor select any program or menu option. In order to get out I have to power down the receiver and use channel up/down. (a real pain you-know-where) Is my remote defective or do I have to do some kind of programming to make these buttons work (when I press them now the LED does not light up as the others might upon pressing)? I did check the UEI site and the All for One site but they do not list this remote -- (too old/new?)

You should be able to use the remote's keymover function to assign these functions to keys you don't otherwise use. To do this:

Press the device button you programmed as device 0775

Hold the "setup" or "program" or "magic" button, it's the one you used to set the device button as code 0775. After you hold it a couple of seconds it will blink, like when you programmed the device.

Enter 9 9 4

Press the setup button briefly

Enter the advanced code for the function you want (see below).

Press the button you want to perform the function.
The remote will blink again. The key is now reprogrammed.

If you take too long to perform any of the steps you have to start over.

An advanced code for exit (cancel) is 080. An advanced code for enter (select) is 016. For advanced codes to perform other functions you can see [Link: hifi-remote.com]
