I have a Cinema6, with learning buttons 1L - 4L, model urc-6800B00 that I've used for a few years now. When the batteries were replaced a few days ago the memory was lost. I have tried several times now to reprogram the 1L buttons but I never get the double blink after entering the 975 code.
I enter;
setup, get 2 blinks. Enter 9 7 5 and get 1 long blink, never 2.
I was able to reprogram the dvd, the vcr, the receiver & the TV w/o a problem.

Any ideas on what to do to reprogram the learning buttons?

Mike

Changing batteries does not directly cause learned signals to be lost. They are stored in eeprom and can stay for years without batteries.

These remotes occasionaly corrupt the contents of their eeproms. One important part of the eeprom (not the part where the learned signals are) is only read by the remote's CPU right after you change batteries. That part couldn't get corrupted by changing batteries, but could have been corrupted for months already and the remote didn't care that it was corrupted until you changed batteries. Once the remote sees that part is corrupted, it will fail to use other parts (such as learned signals) in a way that fits the symptoms you described.

I can't think of a good way to confirm that the eeprom contents are corrupted, but the drastic fix for that condition would also fix any of the other causes that might fit you symptoms.

Do a 981 Reset (see the instruction in Rob's improved copy of the URC7800 manual at)

The 981 reset will deselect all your setup codes, erase all you key moves, all your macros, all your learned signals, and any upgrades you ever got (by mailing the remote back to OFA for upgrade).

Assuming you never got any upgrades, do the 981 reset then reprogram your remote from scratch as if you'd just purchased it. Sorry that there isn't a less drastic solution for those without JP1 cables.

If you ever got any upgrades that you still need, then don't do the 981 reset. You can't fix your remote right without getting a JP1 cable (or mailing the remote to OFA for re upgrade).

Thanks for the execellent info. I did the 981 reset earlier tonight and then manually reentered the codes. Fortunately I had no special upgrades and it wasn't too big of a pain.
