Aloha All,
So I just got an 8910, and have it mostly set up to my liking.

I don't need anything too advanced, but I would like the entire keypad to operate the cable box no matter what device mode I happen to be in.

I tried using the keymove function, but ran out of memory pretty quickly since I had to move all ten buttons to every other mode.

So, my question is, is this the kind of thing I could do if I had a jp-1 cable? I mean could I reassign the ir code for the keypad keypresses for all modes to be the necessary ir for the cable box?

Many Thanks,
eKennedy

short answer is yes, JP1 would save the memory.

Alternative would be to leave the remote in the Cble Devise mode and punch through volume, etc. to Cable. I'd create a power macro with the last function to switch to Cable mode.

Good Luck

Dave

What you seem to want is something the Home Theater mode almost provides, but there are enough flaws in the 8910 HT mode design that you probably can't quite get it to do what you want.
With JP1 you can use a "special protocol" to dynamically change HT settings within a macro. That gets you a lot closer, but probably still not quite there.

JP1 (for the 8910) does not increase the amount o key move memory, so you still won't be able to do what you want as a large number of key moves.

The solution that almost certainly will work and fit is the "device combiner" protocol. That allows you to define new setup codes that are combinations of other setup codes. For example, you could define a VCR setup code that has the keypad functions of your cable tuner combined with transport and menu functions of your VCR.
