Has anyone discovered the advanced function key code for Video 3 on a Kenwood VR309 receiver? I cycled through all 256 codes for both device code 313 and 314 and have found just about all but the key function code for Video 3.

That goes for me as well. I cannot find a way to get to Video 2 or Video 3 from the URC8800. There is something strange about these IR codes as none of my learning remotes can emit them funtionally.

You can program the VIDEO 2 button using advanced code 183 (under device 0313), but you will have to learn the VIDEO 3 button as there isn't an advanced code for that one (yet).

You can find the rest of the 0313/0314 advanced codes on my site.

Rob, that is great (now I can access my DVD player). There isn't a dedicated button on the Kenwood remote for switching between video sources. There is one button and it rotates between four (vid 1,2,3 and an aux). If I learn the 'video' button nothing happens (I have learned other buttons from the Kenwood and they do work). I tried learning when the remote would have switched from Vid2 to Vid3 (just in case the remote kept track of the device state (which would have been dumb)) but this didn't work either.
Am I missing something? I am using the Radio Shack version with RF from my kitchen and I still have to run to the other room to switch video sources (which defeat the utility of the remote somewhat).
I am at the point where I am ready to replace the Kenwood with something that I can control from a universal remote.

Sounds like the button you are looking for is the INPUT button, which is adv code 300 under device 0314. This will supposedly toggle the inputs up, there is also an input down button, which is adv code 622 under device 0314.

As far as learning goes, do you have one of those funny Kenwood remotes with the joystick? From what i gather from reading peoples posts, these remotes have so-called toggle buttons which don't really use a toggle code at all, but in fact put out different discrete codes depending on how many times you press the button. So, it's not like the Sony two-way remotes that really do keep track of the status of the device, these Kenwood remotes have INPUT buttons where the first time you press the button it will give you, say, VIDEO 1, then when you press it later, it will give you VIDEO2, then VIDEO 3, etc. Clever? Maybe. Too clever for their own good? Definitely!

Personally, I use the 15-1994 which doesn't have codes 0313 or 0314, so when I was shopping for a new receiver, I avoided Kenwood this time around.

Rob.

I have the VR209. You're in for a good time getting Video 3 learned onto your remote.

The Kenwood remote does output discrete component codes everytime you press the 'Video' button - V1 -> V2 -> V3. Not a big deal... Except there is a timeout period. So, if you press once (V1), twice (V2), then setup everything to learn the code, the Kenwood remote resets the timer and starts over at V1.

Basically, you need to set your learning remote to learn, press 'Video' twice, while making sure the Kenwood remote can't be 'seen' by the learning remote, then press 'Video' again while pointing at the learner.

Took me quite a few tries to get this, but it does work.

I think the trick is to have an assistant, one of you works the Kenwood remote, and the other works the learning remote.

My method had no true structure. I ended up trying different to press the Video button in succession 3 times. I don't think that button assignment stores all the inputs only the last one entered.

OK guys I need a little help here. I just got my 15-1994 last week and I so far I've been able to program it to run my Panasonic DVD player, Sony VCR, Philips Magnavox RPTV and Hughes satellite receiver but I'm having trouble getting it to control my Kenwwood VR-309. I tried the 3 codes in the manual but none worked...I tried programming it into the aux 1 button. I also tried a code search but still nothing.

I was able to use the smart buttons for power on/off, volume up, volume down and mute but I'm sure there must be a way to get the receiver to operate from one of the aux buttons. I'm new to this board so if this question has been asked before I apologize.

Can someone tell me how to go about this?
I can see that people have also been having a problem with getting this remote to perform video source selection which I also could not get to work properly with the smart buttons.

Thanks for any advice anyone might be able to offer.

Vin - and the reason you posted this in a thread about a different remote altogether is ....?? (Okay, the RS and One-For-All remotes are pretty similar, but still ...)

Hint: click the Search Forum link at the bottom of the thread and so a search for vr-309 and 15-1994. It may take a minute or two, but you'll end up to links to about a dozen existing threads on this subject.

Thanks for the tip Makai, I did as you suggested and after reading many threads discovered that the 15-1994 doesn't have any codes for the Kenwood VR-309. As I said earlier I was able to learn power on/off, volume up, volume down and mute to the smart keys but one of Rob's posts mentioned learning functions to any keys so those functions are now programmed (learned) into the appropriate keys on the remote.

I also used Mark's procedure above for learning my VR-309's Video 1, 2 and 3 inputs and after several attempts I did get it to work!

Anyway it looks like I'll be keeping my 15-1994, this thing is a steal at $30! Also, this is a helluva site, as is Rob's site.....the amount of information between the two sites is absolutely incredible!

Thanks to Rob, Mark and everyone else for all their informative posts!
