i just picked up a 6012 oneforall from WalMart for $14

After a few calls to oneforall for updated codes I have all my devices under control using ONE control button - The super sweet "Home Theater" device button!

Has anyone else tried this remote? Granted, It does not have learning ability, but It seems to know just about everything out of the box and its backlit.

I have it controlling an RCA directTV receiver, a Kenwood AV receiver for dolby digital, a Sylvania DVD+VCR combo unit and my Sanyo TV. All the functions of these devices are mapped to the home theater key so I never have to switch device keys!

Also has a macro button that I have set to turn everything on/off.

You can define macros on most keys, not just the keys the manual says you can define macros on.

It's a good remote compared to other non JP1 remotes (at $14 it's slightly higher price than competing non learning non JP1 remotes and moderately higher capability).

If you add the eeprom, jumper and JP1 connector, it becomes a nice JP1 remote. Unless you're real insistent about having a remote this small (typical JP1 remotes are too big for many users) and/or real comfortable soldering, it won't be worth the trouble vs. buying a JP1 remote that doesn't need soldering.

How did you set up your Sylvania dvd/vcr combo? What device codes did you use? I am curious, because I have one of these.

I will have to get back to you when I get home to see for sure, but I think I am using the magnavox dvd code 0695. The only thing that it doesn't control is swiching bewteen dvd and vcr, but there is an advanced code for that.

Just FYI, there is an easy way to get an EEPROM added to your remote for those that don't like soldering. Just find a code that isn't in the URC-6012w and send it back to OFA and ask them to add it. To add the new code they would first need to add an EEPROM chip, thus giving you a great JP1 remote.

I just picked up one these yesterday at WM. My new Akai 27"Pure Flat Screen came with a Remocon universal and I could not get it to pick up my Mitsu HS-U48 VCR(pretty old but it works great).
The 6012 had codes for VCR, Sat, old Sony audio reciever, and the Samsung codes worked for the Akai. I am not real pleased with the response time on the buttons, may just take a little getting used to it.

I have the same remote which worked well until I changed my receiver from a Yamaha to a Rotel 1055. I got some codes by email from Univeral Electronics Inc. (Audio Amp/Tuners -- : Rotel
0007, 0726, 0852) which did not work.

Do I have to give up making this remote work for my Rotel? I also have another OneForAll Big Easy HT that I would like to program for my Rotel receiver.
