Thanks to all who helped me with my questions. Santa delivered it as promised and I'll give you my thoughts:

Easily pre-programmed codes for my Panasonic TV and stand-alone TiVO unit. However the "List" button for TiVO doesn't appear nor does any other key emulate that key. The 2 screen design is mandatory for TiVo use and I can't find any way around it.

If you own a JVC receiver, this may not be the remote for you. After 2 days of calling the #800, the very helpful girl did not have my receiver model listed. I asked her to download the 0074 code. Well, it shuts the receiver off and on and changes the volume and does a few other features but the original remote has to stay out for many of the receiver's functions. She kept my receiver model number and programmed it in her computer system for the 0074 code.

My backlight is not as sensitive as others I have read about and I guess thats a good thing. However if the backlight is off and you press a button, you'll have to press it again to activate the command as the first press activates the backlight.

I do like the thinness of the remote but it is a little long. Don't crank up the brightness to full..you really don't need it.

Its learning function is awful..couldn't learn any JVC or TiVo commands. If anyone knows how to program punch through volume commands, please let me know...I tried everything the manual offers.

You get what you pay for and for $60.00...thats what you get.

I dislike the 2 screen tivo setup as well, if someone finds a workaround, please post!

As for the volume punch through, it works perfectly for me, all I did was follow the manual so I can't give you any helpful tips... Tried it 2 different ways and it worked both times, one where it always controlled the tv volume, the other where it always controlls the amp volume.

I do wish the first button press didnt just activate the back light, or that there was at least an option to change this. I think they must have designed it that way for dark conditions where they assume your first press is just to illuminate the display so that you can see it.

Can you explain the procedure you used for the volume punch through? I operate a TV, TiVo,receiver and DVD on this remote. Of course the TV is set for "fixed audio out". I need it to control the amp volume in any mode. Thanks much!

I use it for a TV, Tivo, reciever/amp, and a DVD as well. Here is what I did to set it up:

1. Input all the device codes and make sure they were working.

2. Page 27 of the manual, they call it Volume lock it is described there in better detail than I can give, but here is a quick summary:

a. press and hold p key till the circle appears around it.

b. type 993

c. Press 'aud' button, ( or whichever device you want the volume and mute keys to always control).

I wanted the volume keys to always control the amp volume no matter what device I had active on the remote.

I also used the 'unlock' function for the tv so that I could just turn on the tv and use the standard tv volume controls (without the amp and tivo). I did this because if I am just channel surfing, the tivo tuning delay bothers me, and I don't bother with the amp for channel surfing.

Hope that helps...

I've found a way to get it all(most) of the Tivo stuff on one screen, see here:

Re: Your JVC Receiver... With only the 074 code you probably cannot get the menu, arrows, set etc... to work.

See " [Link: remotecentral.com] ".

I followed the above to get my JVC 884 receiver to work with a RS 2116 remote (I used JP1).

Someone just posted to my thread on the Tivo forum, saying that OFA CS have a sat code 1900 that works great for my Tivo with no mucking around swopping keys around.

I just got it from OFA CS in the UK, works great. They say it's in test at the moment.

regards,

Greg

Does anybody know if you can use use the same discrete codes with this remote that you can use with the other OFA remotes? For example, the Cinema 7 remote has a very handy "magic" or "setup" button which allows you to send discrete on/off commands to just about any device. I would like to upgrade to the Kameleon but not at the expense of losing the discrete funcionality that came with the considerably cheaper Cinema 7 remote.

The same basic design for sending "advanced" codes is there and when they work at all the same 3 digit numbers will be right.

The newer remotes have a higher fraction of "2 byte" protocols in which that method of sending advanced codes doesn't work. So it will work for some setup codes and not for others.

Post a list of device type and setup code that you're using with the Cinema 7 (such as I use TV/0156 and VCR/0162 etc.) and someone will tell you the status of those in the RS 15-2133 Kameleon (unless you meant a different model such as the Eoropean Kameleon, in which case I'm not sure any of us know yet).
