I've just bought a mosaic RCU, and it dosent work for half of my equipment, i'm waiting for update codes (those magic key 3 digit codes), to be sent to me, tried updating it, and it didn't add any new codes that would work,

My TV is the easiest to get to work with the RCU, but its an old tv, and every screen for the tv has functions that arent on my TV.. they are annoying as they are a clutter, things like a chanel 20 button.. mine dosent have that facility.. uses the -/-- button to get into 2 digit numbers,
also its very annoying to be stuck with boring square buttons when ever i re-name of learn a button,

i know the port on the side of the RCU is a data port.. what type i don't know, but i was wondering if anyone has managed to get into the remote's software with a PC.. one for all said they were thinking about adding pc updating at a later date.. that date must be far off, as nothings arived yet,

What i am thinking of.. the remote is programmed with certian equipment to have proper buttons (like a play symbol for play on the remote.. not a box saying play), so they are written for the standard equipments remote codes.. it should be possible to write a new screen layout, using any graffix you want, and add the command codes as needed to the key map.. then upload it to the RCU as a new device?? is that possible?

if not, any way to delete unused buttons that are there from the device screen.. like my chanel 20 button i dont want (for my TV i want the first screen to be simple.. off, AV, brightness and contrast controls.. as it's used really as a monitor.. it never uses its tuner, so no need for any numbered buttons (the sat box is the tuner now), i tried learning the codes to one of the empty pages for video accessories.. but ran out of learning space,

i know i should have got a pronto, but can't afford one, is there a way to customize the mosaic using a pc?

You can upgrade your Mosaic through your PC speakers or over the phone. No there isn't any pronto-like PC programming with the Mosaic. As for changing the PLAY button to a symbol, yes you can relabel a button. There are three pages of letters and symbols, for you to choose from. You can't delete buttons, but you can add buttons. I don't use my Mosaic, but it is a great remote.

I suspect that UEI is going to abandon the Mosaic/Director as I get the impression that it's been an almighty flop, so I wouldn't expect that serial port to be activated anytime soon. Plus, seeing as how there are so few people actually using this remote, I'm not expecting the JP1 hackers to try to reverse engineer it either.
