I recently got a URC-8011 and I got almost everything programmed. However, when I try to program advanced codes they don't work

I followed the instructions at [Link: hifi-remote.com]. The steps to test a code work fine, but the steps to program a code don't work

Has OFA changed the procedure for advanced codes with their latest generation of remotes? The manual does not mention the procedure, nor does the OFA web site.

I'm trying to setup the replay and skip buttons for TiVo using the code 0618.

The tivo code VCR0618 that is in the 8011 doesn't accept advanced codes. Only the newest radio shack remote, the 15-2116 has a VCR0618 that accepts advanced codes.

Do other, more advanced OFA remotes support advanced codes for TiVo? I'm thinking of the 8910 or 9910. I'm guessing if they don't then you can just learn special functions.

I can't say for sure, but the 8910 came out at the same time as the 8011, so I don't think it will accept them. But the 9910 came out three months later, it could have the VCR0618 that accepts advanced codes. Whats wrong with 2116?

Since I have a Tivo, the button layout for FF, RW, play, stop, Skip FW and Skip RV are better laid out than the 2116. The 2116 and 2117 don't have good buttons close to the play, rw, and ff buttons to change to skip ahead and replay.

Just FYI, the issue of the TiVo code accepting advanced codes is not a question of the remote being "high end" or not, it's a question of how new the remote is. The original version of the TiVo code used 2-byte commands, which means it does not accpet advanced codes, but they have recently changed this to 1-byte commands, which means it now does support advanced codes.

The URC-8910/9910 ws the first remote to feature the new version of the TiVo code (apart from remotes program via JP1 which have had the code for about 2 years). Other remotes that also have the new version are the Radio Shack 15-2116 and 15-2133

Just by curiosity, did UIEC "borrow" the hacked protocol from the JP1 group, or did both the JP1 group and UIEC "borrow" it from another source ?

I'm glad there are more remotes out that accept advanced codes for vcr0618, for awhile I thought I was the only one.

We developed the 1-byte version of the TiVo code in the JP1 group ourselves, about 2 years before UEI developed their version. I had been nagging them for all that time to change both the TiVo and Replay codes to 1-byte versions and they kept giving excuses, but I guess they finally relented. Supposedly they also have a 1-byte version of the Replay code (VCR/0614) but this hasn't found it's way into a real remote yet.
