My 1994 died an unfortunate death (TAPS, 21 gun salute, etc...). I replaced it w/ a 2116 and unfortunately it doesn't seem to have come w/ pre-programmed codes for my Onkyo TX-SV515 A/V RCVR. Anybody have any suggestions for manually programming the ONKYO functions (IR ~ works but the VOLUME LOCK doesn't seem to bring the volume control through when other modes are selected)? I had to do this for my APEX DVD on the 1994 so I'm ~ familiar with the process (although its been a couple years).

Thanks for any help.

I bought a 2116 last week, and to get it to work with my Onkyo TX-DS939 I had to play around with it via JP1. There were no codes in the remote itself that would work. In fact, there are not even any Onkyo codes listed in the manual, even though the cardbord in the package lists Onkyo by brand, on the back, with all the others.
The manual that comes with it from Radio Shack, just plain SUCKS!

That's exactly my dilema. I bought the 2116 thinking it would be as nice as the 1994 (w/ the Onkyo codes pre-programmed). Nope.

I'm an EE and very much a "tinkerer" and would love to do the JP-1 thing (mostly because it kinda feels like I'm getting away with something). Is there somewhere I can buy a cable or is making one too easy to think about buying one?

You can buy one pre built for about $18; But it sounds like you'd have no trouble building one. The detailed instructions for building it are at

so you can judge for yourself whether it's easy.

BTW, the two resistors shown don't need to be 10K. Anything from 1K to 10K should work fine. The designer recently changed his opinion and now recommends 1K rather than 10K (the above page hasn't been updated), but most people are using 10K with no problem. The diode similarly doesn't need to be the one suggested. Any common diode will do. If you have any broken or obsolete computer parts to scavange it's easy to find something to use for the 6-pin connector; Otherwise, that's a hard part to find.

It should take you all of about 15 minutes to make one. The only "hard" part is the JP1 connector itself, as most likely you will need to butcher a old IDE cable to make it. And even that, is not that hard to do.

Hey Joey Remote (any relation to Joey Ramone???),
Do you still have the dead 15-1994? If so, can I have it? I can use it for parts to fix other remotes.

Thanks,
Rob
