I have had my kameleon for 1 week and the batteries are now flat. I noticed that a spare set of batteries were supplied with the unit. Does anyone know the expected battery life, as this could be an expensive remote control to run!

Mine didn't come with any batteries at all. Neither one set inside nor a spare set. I've only had it for two days. Mine is model 15-2133. What model is yours that came with two sets of batteries?

My kameleon is a urc8060 one for all 6in1. I live in the UK and my one came in a large box (300mmx 220mm) with batteries installed in the device and a spare set in the box.. I am pleased with the way it works and have not found anything it can't control so far. I have also found that it sometimes doesn't light up when you pick it up and does not always turn itself off when you put it down but i have not discovered a pattern to it yet!

I guess the difference must be because they do it differently in the UK than the USA because mine definitely didn't come with any batteries at all. I found the lights to be a little quirky, too. But if I run my hand over it, the light comes on and it seems to turn itself off eventually. I do hope the batteries last more than one week!

There's another difference between the UK and US versions. Hey Les, what did you pay for the URC-8060? The US version is $60, which is about 40 pounds. Also Les, we're looking for URC-8060 owners in the JP1 group as we'd like to add support for it, interested in joining? [Link: hifi-remote.com]Rob http://www.hifi-remote.com/

hey Rob,and hello Linda MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ONE AND ALL! Yes it would appear that the price difference is significant. I paid seventy UK pounds for my 8060 in dixons electrical store. I have today fitted the second set of batteries so it will be interesting to see how long they last. It has been suggested that the first set may have been largely flattened while the unit was on display in the shop as they are supplied in "try this packaging" over here but we will see. I am not familiar with jp1 technology so i have just flashed over to your site link, it looks interesting and when i get time i will look into it.

Have you considered rechargeable batteries?

re. rechargeable batteries This will be the only way to go if it proves that battery life is this short, but you need a screwdriver each time you change them, so it will be a bit of a pain. I have my fingers crossed that the original batteries were indeed flattened in the shop, but if you all keep me informed perhaps we will get to the bottom of it!

The batteries in mine are still good after nearly two weeks, but I only use it at night in the bedroom. I'm thinking as bright as the buttons are illuminated this will be a problem.

I have the same feeling about the remote. (URC-8060/Finland) Had it for a week and though the batteries were finished. I had symptoms similar to les. So i just removed batteries and inserted them back. Id it has worked fine since that ( two weeks).
Before battery stuff it didnt want to learn new codes and didnt send singals to my tv (Philips 8806)every time. WeŽll see how things turn out to be...
