I have a Sony VCR (SLV-765F). I have the original remote as well as an RS-15-2116 and a Sony RM-AV3000. All remotes are programmed for this VCR. Fast forward, rewind and play all work.
The problem: Once I press play with any of the remotes it will play but then, nothing else will work. FF RW STOP on any of the remotes. If I manually press stop (on the VCR) all of the other functions work again.

Yeah get a new vcr! It sounds like you have the timer on.
