I can get (most) of my inputs set correctly for the Kameleon (e.g. Pressing 7 gives me sat) but I can't get it to switch to DVD input.

I have tried to magic up code 124 onto button 6 but nothing happens!

My work round will be to put the DVD onto the optical in for the MD/DAT machine (when I go and get another cable) but being a tidy minded person it would be nice to get it on the DVD input.
All help welcome.

I don't have a Kameleon, but isn't it a learning remote? Could you for now just learn from your other remote? And then try to figure out what is going wrong w/the advanced codes until then? Just a thought....

Just a thought....

Yes, the Kameleon is a learning remote. However, Sony makes some funky remotes which are a bit hard to learn from. I tried endlessly to learn some commands from the remote for my STR-DA4ES, but gave up trying.

In this situation, you might be best to call the toll-free support number for Radio Shack remotes. The center is staffed between 9 - 5 (EDT) Monday - Friday, so you have to call during the day-time. The RS remote toll-free number is: 1-800-950-7044.

I just called there this morning. They have a code - 1758, I believe, that is not loaded onto the Kameleon. However, since the Kameleon has a built-in modem, they can send you this new code over the telephone during your service call.

Just one word of caution about the 1758 code. My STR-DA4ES would only work in "AV2" mode with this remote. Ensure your receiver can get into this mode, as opposed to "AV1" so you can get this code to work. I don't recall if the DVD/LD option was provided in that code release, but think button #9 gave me the option to select DVD/LD.

Since I have a new OneForAll and some JP1 cables on the way, I'm passing on the Kameleon for now. I just returned it a short while ago. My 2-year-old $25.00 OneForAll Cinema 7 is working better with my Sony receiver than the new Kameleon was. I guess I thought it was too good to be true -- getting a flashy new Kameleon, only to find out it limited control over my Sony gear.

It seems that this is one of those things from the standard remote that I just can't learn.

Button #9 on the Kameleon gives me the 5.1 analogue inputs.

Ron, Have you contacted Radio Shack support so you can have code 1758 downloaded to your Kameleon?

I've got an STR-DB930 and a 1994 remote. Using code 1058, I can get to all my inputs except TV/SAT which I had to set. I used the codes at hifi-remote and everything is great.

I picked up a 2116 this weekend as a gift for someone and played with it a little last night. It also does not seem to have the DVD input mapped anywhere using code 1058. Tonight I may try to see if it can learn the code from my 1994. I really like the remote and may get one myself, but not if I can't get past this little problem.

I got my 2116 to learn the dvd code from the 1994 (and it works), though it would not learn it from the oem remote.

This is from IR...

Protocol: SONY12
Device: 16
OBC:107
Hex Cmd: D6 or D7
EFC: 124 or 116
Frequency: 40000

Sent repeatedly while key is being held:
+2400 -600 +1200 -600 +1200 -600 +600 -600 +1200 -600 +600 -600 +1200 -600 +1200 -600 +600 -600 +600 -600 +600 -600 +600 -600 +1200 -25178

Everything else is null.

To the pros, does this shed any light on the problem?

Mike

UPDATE:

I got the 2116 to learn from the original Sony remote. I got some false positives, but kept trying and got it to learn the DVD code on 3 separate buttons and got the same code on all 3 and they all work. (the learned codes that is, not trying to use those EFCs)

Here's what IR has...

Protocol: SONY12
Device: 16
OBC:125
Hex Cmd: BE or BF
EFC: 191 or 183
Frequency: 40404

Sent repeatedly while key is being held:
+2350 -596 +1162 -594 +594 -572 +1162 -594 +1162 -594 +1162 -594 +1162 -594 +1162 -594 +594 -572 +594 -572 +594 -572 +594 -572 +1162 -24438

I posted my findings and question on the JP1 yahoo group and got this response from Jon Armstrong:
===========================================

You must use IR for this, in the Key Moves tab do everything like you normally would except for the bottom entry; select hex, enter D6 08.

The command in my Sony receiver is OBC=107 and that is the command that I have provided above.

If you want to create one of these for yourself, Audio_1058 is a combination protocol. The first hex byte is the OBC with the bits backwards and the second is the device with the bits backwards.

For example OBC=107 is binary 01101011 reverse the bits 11010110 and convert to hex is D6

You can use the calculator found in every copy of Windows open it and under View select scientific. This will allow you to convert from binary to hex to decimal and back and forth.

08 hex converted to binary and then reversing the bits and coverting to decimal is 16. The only trick is that you always have to use 8-bits. MS Calculator will give you 1000 for 08 hex you must add 4 zeros to the left (00001000) and then reverse. For decimal 107 it
will give 1101011 so you must add a zero (always to the left before converting) or you will get the wrong answer.

Julie, the lovely girl from one for all downloaded a new code into the kameleon over the phone, got me to key magic the apm setting and all's now well.

Thanks Julie.
