Thanks for the info. I just bought a $10 Philips Magnovox Universal Remote at Target and it does everything I need. It turns everything on/off, adjusts volume on my HT receiver, and changes channels on Tivo. What is remarkable, it was the only Universal remote that I saw that actually said on the packaging that it controls Tivo. And I looked at dozens. Thanks again, this is a great Website.

What's the model number of the Magnavox remote, and take a look at the setup codes and see if they are all 29 higher than the regular UEI codes. For example, is the TiVo code VCR/0647 (ie, 0618 + 29), if so, it means it's really a UEI remote.

I tossed out the packaging last night, but if my memory serves me it was REM-212...I think. Make no mistake this is no full feature Universal remote. I cannot do the advanced Tivo features with it....record, 8 second back-up, Fast forward, For those features I will gladly use the TIVO remote. The really annoying thing was having to fiddle/find 2 remotes to turn the system off when I wanted to leave the room. And, using 2 remote to adjust volume on my HT receiver and change channels.

TIVO users generally fall into a group of what is loosely refrerred to as "early adopters." I find it strange that Tivo would not include a universal remote just the crappy one that controls a TV. What would it cost >>> $6 ?? Maybe OFA should contact Tivo& their manufacturers about an OEM deal. Thanks for enduring my rant.

UEI/ofa did make the Sony Dtivo remote, it doesn't have JP1, but it does have a hidden learning feature, to enable it you need to punch-in 975.

OK, but does it ask you to do 99x style commands for things like blinking back the setup code that you entered, etc and are the setup codes 29 higher than UEI codes. For example, could you tell us the TiVo code?

The tivo code the Philip Magnavox remote is 1077. I hope this helps. I am curious, why you are curious?

Because some Magnavox remotes are really UEI remotes, and have most of the UEI functionality built in, such as the ability to use key moves, etc. The REM400 is one such example, but it sounds like the REM212 is not.
