I just purchased a URC 6012 to give as a Christmas gift. I was programming to check the operation and found that the exit key does not work in any mode. I have set up my TV, SAT, VCR, and DVD. Wont work with any device. It sends no signal at all because the LED wont light. I had the same problem with a URC 8810 that I purchased a few weeks ago. I just thought that was a glitch and took it back in favor of a Radio Shack 15-2116 that works fine. What am I doing wrong?

I'm guessing that what you're doing wrong is assuming the fact that no signal is sent when you press the exit key in every mode means the exit key is "not working". Probably not the case. What it does mean is that the 4-digit codes for your devices don't assign a preprogrammed function to the exit key. Other device codes probably do. Also you more than likely could keymove advanced codes (3-digits) or copy other buttons to the exit key to perform the desired functions. More than likely your issue with the 8910 was identical, and you're just fortunate that the 2116 is preprogrammed better for your devices. Maybe that's true in general, since most here prefer the 2116 over the 8910.

If the EXIT button isn't included in any of the setup codes that you are using, you can program it yourself using advanced codes. Rob http://www.hifi-remote.com

Rob, Unfortunately, I don't think this is correct (though it should be). See my post about the problemmatic EXIT key on the RS-2116 at [Link: remotecentral.com]LarryMcJ

This thread is about the URC-6012w, not the 15-2116, and that's what my answer was about.

You're right...I just noticed the "RS-2116" at the end of his first message. Sorry about that.
