Does anyone know the details of the process by which an eligible OFA remote is upgraded over the phone? Does the company transmit data over the phone which is somehow sensed and acted upon by the remote? Or do they read you instruction on keystroke programming on the phone? What exactly happens when an unsupported device is added to the library via a phone call?

Dunno whether you're in the US, but here in the UK, if you've found a code that you need on your remote (personally mines a Topline 8 / URC-8550), you telephone OFA's support line, explain what and explain what you need.
Then they tell you to press the key sequence that tells the remote you want to use the modem (I could describe this for mine, but it may be irrelevant to yours), hold it to the phone whilst they send the codes. On my remote, when it's finished, the word "COMPLETE" is displayed in the LCD window, momentarily.
You can then use the new code(s) to assign to device keys.
I don't understand your question about unsupported devices.
Cheers

I have a Topline 8/URC 8550 and I needed it upgraded so it could be used with my Sky digibox & Samsung DVD player. All I did was phone up customer support and they downloaded the required data over the phone line.
The Topline 8 has a built in magnetic coupled modem, you just hold the phone receiver to the rear of the remote.
It took a few attempts before the download was successful.

forgive my late coming but I found this in a search today.
Is it possible to upgrade the 8800 by phone too? I have found some possible codes on the international website for One for All that might work for me but don't know if this is possible from the US.
