Hi!

I just want to say that the "motion sensor" of my Kameleon seems to work now in all cases. The only thing I did was I opened the battery cover and closed it again. I don't know what one has to do with the other, I just noticed that it "magically" works now... :-) So if you experience problems with the "motion sensor" not responding try open the battery cover, wait a little while, and close it again. It may help.

Regards, Stefan.

"try open the battery cover, wait a little while, and close it again." Sounds like it needed a little sunlight to make it wake up :)

I'm new to universal remotes. Could anyone tell me if I bought a Radio Shack version of the Kameleon, or even a US version of a Pronto, would it be fully functional in the UK? Would all the codes still work, particularly for Sky Digital? Sorry to ask such a basic question.

If you are in the UK, you should get the OFA version of the Kameleon from dalepak.

The built in code library in universal remotes is taylored to their intended market, so if you got the US version of the Kameleon you would be missing ALOT of codes that you need, as would any American who buys the UK version.

However, the Pronto is primarily a learning remote, so as long as you have the original remotes for your devices, you;ll be fine.

Thanks for your response, does that mean I would be OK with a US bought Pronto NEO for UK use?

There's a BIg difference between the Pronto and the ProntoNeo. I'm no expert in this matter, but from what I hear the ProntoNeo should be avoided. But, I'd go to the Pronto forum for a more definitive answer.

I ordered one today. It looks pretty cool but I'm wondering how many commands it can learn. I recently bought a Sony RM-AV3000 and love it, however it's a bit bulky for the bedroom (one handed opperation is tough with the Sony and my wife is usually sleeping on the other arm). I'm hoping that the kameleon can run my ReplayTV. It looks like the button layout is perfect. An LCD remote does take some getting used to, but it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

All,

I received my Radio Shack branded Kameleon yesterday....I'll write up some info on it as well as put some pictures up when I get a chance.....I bought it to possibly replace my Sony-AV2000.......There are some nice features, but a lot of featues that the AV2000 has that the kameleon does not have and I will miss if I actually make the conversion..... I'm not sure it has the stuff to take the place of my AV2000, but we will see.

The bottom line is the Kameleon is not that much smaller than the Av2000....It's actually pretty large, as far as the length, the width is wonderful, probably only 2.5" - 3"....

So far I've not had any problems with it's functionality, the buttons are quite responsive, night usages is FANTASTIC compared to the AV2000 remote, the auto on motion sensor deal is SWEET. However, not all of the buttons I need are present and I've not finished adding my custom ones yet...and you can't add a unlit button to the screen like you can on the Sony AV2000. Switching to a device doesn't auto power it on like it does on the AV2000. Thus far, I'm a bit disappointed in it overall, but I'm going to give it a week or so and see if I like it better after I've used it a bit.

More to come.

Thanks chknlil. I'll be looking forward to hear how you like it. I'm actually happy it does not have the auto-on when you switch to a component since sometimes I want to switch channels on my cable box while I'm watching TV through ReplayTV. If it had auto-on then it would be turning my cable box off (or my Replay off when I switched back to it). I am worried about the size. Can you use it one handed comfortably? I can use my Sony AV3000 one handed, but not comfortably.

Can't you have a couple of pages of buttons for each device? I'm concerned to hear that you are running out of buttons. It seems to me that it has MORE buttons than the Sony 2000/3000s.

Just got mine today -

I cant upgrade it!!! I went to the UK site, and the code took in the remote, but I cant get to step 4 in the process on the web, which I am assuming shows me exactly what code it just installed :(

Hopefully if they fix that I can try it out.

Other impressions: unless we can JP1 it, Im sorta disappointed........the macros run faster than a standard 15-1994, but they are still kinda slow. I see the JP1 pads, but dont know easy it would be to solder.

More to come from me, as well.

I received mine yesterday, so consider the JP1 effort started.

Deaded...I agree that the remote shouldn't auto power on a device when you switch to it...unless you want it too! I'm so used to my AV2000 auto powering on the device that I actually like it now! :)

The size....well, it's an awful lot like a baseball bat. :) Kidding of course, but all kidding aside, it is difficult to use with one hand. At least it is for me, I have small hands I think. Personally I find the AV2000 easier to handle, especially since you can use it as a table top model. You can't use the Kameleon as a table top model...it'll rock all over the place when you push the buttons.

Also I find that I'm doing quite a bit of jumping around from the bottom of the remote back to the top of the remote.....that kind of stinks as well. My eyes and hands are getting tired!

Yes you get a couple of pages for buttons. And that is great, but it's not very conveinient....As they are all labeled something already, and you can't change the label...(the same gripe I have with the AV2000.) The Sony AV3000 you can at least put custom labels on like 4 LCD buttons.

I'm having problems finding the proper codes for my Sony STR-DE835 Tuner/Amp......I've not gotten a chance to call radio shack support yet. Although they are not open on Weekends and only 8-5 M-F.

I like the remote....it's cool....But I'm really considering sending this back to Radio Shack, and going with a marantz 5000 or maybe making a smaller jump to the AV3000.

I was weary of buying this remote, but I'm glad I tried it out. It'll probably end up going back to RadioShack...or maybe I'll give it away as a gift. I'll make my final decision in the next few days.

The radio shacks here in Maryland have them since Friday. It's not green like the photos show, I didn't like the feel of it, felt cheap. Passed on it.
