Thanks for the info on those two buttons. I did know any button can be a macro, but I really liked the 4 "easy for the wife to find and use" smart buttons on the 1994. ;)

I second that "can't wait".

IF those pics are right, and the key layout is
like the 1995,

I contacted the RS customer support line as a precursor to ordering the new 2116, and they assured me that the picture was of the actual remote that I would receive. It should be interesting. We'll see if this takes the place of my 1995 or not...

Now if it could only have a dedicated "DVD" device button.......or am I just getting to greedy now?

Eight devices yet it looks like it still has only 7 device buttions, same as the 1995. Anyone have any thoughts on this.

The 15-1994 and 15-1995 were both mis-labelled as far as devices go, if you include the P&P device button, the 15-1994 has 7 and the 15-1995 has 8.

I now use my extended 1995 most of the time because i need rf to switch inputs on an old mini system behind a wooden door. While the temptation to order a 2116 is pretty strong, I'm more inclined to sit back and wait for the 2117...to go on sale. I'm also interested to see if and when the 2103 goes on sale. I don't use mine as often anymore, but they are pretty fun to hack and they are nice and compact. Mine will do anything that another IR remote can do using device upgrades and togglers.

Here, here! Mine does everything I need, and I stocked up with a few extras when they were on sale for 5 bucks, but the novelty of having this 2116 got to me. So call me a sucker, but it will be fun.

Hey Willie,
The only difference between the URC-8800 and the URC-9800 was a small RF puck that can easily be transfered from one remote to another, so i suspect that this will be the same situation with the 15-2116 and 15-2117. So, if you don't mind a little soldering, you could probably transfer the RF puck from your old 15-1995 (or any old Producer 8, 15-1925, etc) to the 15-2116 and convert it into a 15-2117, you'd be the first to have one on your block! (Unless ofafan gets there first)

I was pondering this possibility today. I certainly wouldn't want to disable my 1995, but if the pucks are interchangeable, I wonder if I can get a cheap pro 8 or 1925 somewhere.

Producer 8's are going for $30-$40 on EBay. You can also look for 1935's. I don't think the 1925 will fit.

If you're checking out Producer 8's on ebay, focus on the cheaper URC-8090 rather than the URC-9800 which generally fetches a better price. When you're done, you can always put the URC-8090 back on ebay as a URC-8080 and get a few backs back.

Ok, it's been a few days. The suspense is killing me. In a moment of weakness, I bought another 2103 for the $15 sale price, but I might try trading up to a 2116/2117 before the 30 days are up. Does anybody have a 2116 yet?

The suspense is killing me also. Plugged in my tracking info and will be receiving it tomorrow. I'm very curious about the button layout, even though it appears to be similar to the 1995.

Its a shame that, IMHO, the OFA remotes have such poor layout. They concentrate on style rather than ergonomics. And even though I am excited about the 2116, I would still like to see some more buttons to access various functions. I agree with descentr as the 4 "Easy Wife" buttons are great.

I would love to find an OEM remote that used a Catalyst48 with backlighting, learning, RF, and had the JP1. I think that remote has the best balance of devices, number of buttons and layout. Unfortunately, Many OEMs are now going for the touchscreen remotes. I had a Pronto for a while and hated it. Always had to look at what you are doing. If you can't just lay back with a brew and flip channels without looking, then its not for me.

Just my $0.02<--either that or my entire 401K after this year.

mmmmm....catalyst 48.

Did you see the latest issue of Sound&Vision magazine?

The Escient fireball MP3 server and some Amp were reviewed and they showed pictures of the remotes. Both were cat48s.

Not yet, but mine is supposed to be delivered on Thursday. I would think that Rob should have one soon. It appears as though none of us went with the outrageous shipping for next day.

Craig brought up a good point in the HTM forum, with the ports backed up. there might be delay in delivery of remotes to the stores.
