I went to a RS today, the 2116 is in the computer, but not in the store yet.
The 2117 is in neither the store nor the computer. But the 2115 is in the store, its silver, its about the same size as 6012. RS are no longer issuing catalogs. They're using the internet and flyers from now on.

Well, if look at the 15-2116 and the 15-1995 side by side, it appears that they have exactly the same button layout.

Why sell it for $5(1995), when can rename it(2117) and get $49 for it.

I'm not entirely sure if those pictures are final. If they are, it would be great because I'm a big fan of that design. But this early in the game, they might not have final pics to post on the web site. Who knows.

Does the 2115 have backlighting on all keys or just the upper portion? Did you check for the JP1 pins?

And, I think it would make sense to charge more for a 2117 than a 1995. Consider that it will have the new sam8 processor instead of the 740. Thank goodness Jason Mitchell wrote his 740 extenders this summer because otherwise, I'd be shelling out $50 for the 2117.

The 2115 comes in plastic, not a box, so I couldn't hold it. The button layout is the same as on the link. They also have a 4 in 1 remote, but it has a flag design on it.

revwillie asked "Did you check for the JP1 pins?" - who has actually seen one of these yet? And how do you know it has the sam8 processor? The RS website is very short on info about these new remotes.

He was asking about the 15-2115 which edmund has seen. However, the reports that we've heard about the "flag" remote tell us that it doesn't even have an EEPROM chip, so pins are not an issue. If the 15-2115 is a re-packaged version of the flag remote, it would be a dud as far as JP1 is concerned.

As for the other new remotes, I also suspect that these pics are just place holders, but I can 99% guarantee you that remotes of this calibre will have the 6-pin JP1 connector. And if they really are new remotes, they will also have the Sammy S3C8 processor in place of the nasty Mits 740 that the old 15-1995 had.

Wow! The first time I have been excited about a new remote in a long time. The question is "Will the 2116 be all that the 1994 was plus more?"

Edmund,
You state that the 2115 has no backlighting yet the RS website specifically mentions "Soft backlighting"? Another RS misprint? Still, without JP1, does anyone here really care anyway. But it does concern me that the write-ups on the other (2116-2117) may also contain flaws. Will the 2116 have JP1. I hope so.

Wish me luck, I'm going in..........will try to buy one off the RS web site.

I don't think the RS stores have them yet, but I just called 1-800 The Shack and ordered one, and they said it would ship first thing tomorrow.

Glad to hear that you also took the plunge Rob. I also ordered it from RS at the 1-800 number. Couldn't part with the $18 next day on a $30 item though, so I should receive it early next week. Can't wait to report all the features (or lack there of).

I talked with many people from RS stores, most typical RS employees but found one who really knew the ordering process. He stated that the stores couldn't order them yet since they had not been "released" on their ordering system. His guess was about 2-3 weeks before any would end up in any store across the country. Don't know if its true but it sounded reasonable. Even more reason I can't wait for mine.

The 15-2116 would almost be perfect if it had the smart keys. I really want some dedicated macro buttons. Can't wait to hear the reviews once Rob et al get theirs.

I second that "can't wait".

IF those pics are right, and the key layout is like the 1995, it does have two "dedicated macro" keys. One labeled Audio and the other labeled Video. But, if you are familiar with these remotes, you know that you can put a macro or learned signal on most any key even without JP1. The old 'smart keys' labeled 1s-4s of the 1994 were not the only macro/learning keys. The radio shack manuals never told the whole truth about that.
