ALL:

We've had a major breakthrough concerning the problems most people have found trying to find discrete EFCs for the inputs.

Basically, It can be sort of narrowed down to how many inputs your TV has. For many, the TV_0250 will work fine. If you have Video 1 thru Video 3, generally you can access Component 1 via the toggle EFC 184, and discrete EFC 184.

TV_0250: Panasonic 128.0
EFC Function
180 Video 4;Component 1(If you only have Video1-3)
181 TV
182 Picture
183 Video 2
184 Input toggle
185 Video 1
187 Video 3

The breaktrough: (works for 53WX52)

TV_0637 Panasonic 128.4 (an upgrade for older remotes;
currently unsure if pre-programmed in newer; NOT in 8811B,9800,9900,2103,2104)

004 Component 1 (corrected 10/23)(some report 003works instead)
008 Component 2
049 Aspect-Zoom
113 Aspect-Full
238 Aspect
208 Pic-Pos-Plasma Display

128.9 (hold the phone for setup code;Jp-1 users, No prob :) )
095 Pip size Minimum
097 Pip size Maximum

JP-1 people should keep abreast of further developments at the JP-1 group site. We're examing this TV_0637 issue, and also if a combo code can be buit. Non JP-1 people will have to keep checking here for updates. It doesn't appear that TV_0637 is a native device setup code for older remotes. It can be entered by UEIC IF they'll consent to doing the upgrade for you, but don't have your hopes up. Newer breed OFA/RS owners should check and see if their remotes will accept programming in the TV_0637. If your's does, please report back here that it does, and specify your remote.
As new EFC's are found, I'll Edit the list here so they'll all be in one place. I'll also post any progress from JP-1 as it arises.

Thanks to "Bogdan" and Jon, the basic source for this update bonanza.

Jim

TV 0637 is NOT accepted by the OFA 8811B in a normal setup.

Edmund,

Thanks. I'll post that in the original post via "edit". I'll try to keep all updates posted in that original post so everyone can go their first for updates rather than wade through a long thread, and this one is liable to get that way.
Jim
BTW, I've got an ace-in-the-hole card to play yet, we'll see if it "pans" out.

Actually it was discovered by Bogdan, all I did was draw attention to it in the JP1 group.

UEIC INFO:
"Jim,
1)I would assume that most users would be able to get TV_0637 as an upgrade but I couldn't guarantee what models, etc. I would have to assume that the 8910 and 9910 would definitely be upgraded via modem and the
ID itself is available for upgrade in all products. Our engineering and customer service departments are in separate states and I have limited contact with them and don't know the details of all of their policies.
I have a contact over there who I can ask, just let me know if you need the details.

2) We don't have a native device setup code for 128.9 although we have seen a few functions from original remotes that use this. What we've done is create a combination protocol to combine all Panasonic codes into one ID(T0650 or T1650, depending on Menu Directionals). These codes are available for upgrade as well although they are two byte codes. FYI: these codes also include Panny 128.0 and Panny 128.4
3) If you've got a breakdown of the different data you've discovered, I can take a copy and add the discrete functions into the relevant ID's so that when we do the upgrades all of the functions will be in there.
Let me know about this because I'm always curious about what people have discovered. We've never seen a remote with Components 1 and 2 before so we don't have this data in any ID's."
****Note: The components 1&2 were discovered thru JP-1

Jim,

I just wanted to say a big thanks for spearheading this issue! I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but I will.

Update:

I received another email from my UEIC contact. He was willing to develop a BETA upgrade for testing/modification as neccessary for panny tv's. The problem now is there isn't any current device setup code that uses 128.9, and that's where the component 1 and 2 are located. His proposed device upgrade would be yet another panny combo code, only including 128.0,128.4, and 128.9. It required a JP-1 user to do the BETA testing; therefore I only posted for a volunteer with JP-1 and a Panny 5+ input TV.
Hopefully, I have found a volunteer. Craig has 2 options, he can either just load a file that already exists and is known to work; he can volunteer to be the beta tester; or he can do both.
The end result of the beta testing is UEIC will then have an official device setup code that can be installed in any upgradeable remote. Non-modem remotes will have to be sent in to UEIC, and they will decide the policy on which models they will upgrade. Modem upgradebales will very likely to be available over the net or via phone. FUTURE models or upgrades (i.e.8811B001s, 6012xB001s, etc.) MAY have the "official" panny combo preinstalled. That's the reason for the BETA test. UEIC DID NOT know of the existence of these elusive codes because they are NOT on any original remote. They were discovered by a JP-1 user, and a lot of people owe "Brogdan" a great deal of thanks. However, currently this is of NO use if you don't use JP-1. This beta test, if it proceeds, may give SOME OFA/RS users a way to get it without JP-1.

I received your email, and replied. However, it's bounced twice, even after I tried a little "trick". Your spam blocking filters may be set too high.

FYI,

Ueic is of course aware that combo codes currently do not support using advance codes. They are aware of our "complaints" about this restriction. They are working on a backwards compatible solution that will hopefully soon be available on future releases.

The beta version of the panny combo is finished, I should be recieving the file soon. I can still use Panny owners with a JP-1 remote for this beta test project. Having a 1994 would make it a very quick and easy upload, just copy and paste into IR. Or, load into KM and assign the functions as you wish. A few more volunteers would be helpful. Contact me if you'd be willing to participate. Tom?(nudge, nudge)

howdy guys, I'm new to this section, but I've been to the x-10 orum a few times, as well as the Universal Remote Controls section. (I primarily use an mx-500 for theater functions).

I read about Panny's TV 0637 code, but then I get lost...
I managed to borrow a RS 2104 from a friend and get the discretes for video 1, 2, 3, but would really like to get them for component 1 and 2 as well (I'll buy another OFA/RS is need be), but I read about
"TV_0637 Panasonic 128.4 (an upgrade for older remotes;currently unsure if pre-programmed in newer; NOT in 8811B,9800,9900,2103,2104)"

is there a modem/phone line connection on a OFA remote that I can upgrade the firmware? or have I missed the point entirely?

P.S. I have a Panny 56wx51 widescreen.

I believe TV 0637 is only available as an upgrade (is not built into any of the remotes).
I'm not sure of the rule, costs, or limits, but under some conditions you can mail the 15-2104 in to have an upgrade code like TV 0637 added to it. Unless that is a lot easier than I expect, I recommend a different method.
You can buy or build a JP1 cable that allows you to install such upgrades yourself from a Windows parallel port. There is a Yahoo group with all the (freeware) programs and files (and helpful other users).

Bent,

The URC8910 and 9910 (RF version) do have provisions for phone/modem upgrades. They also allow for .wav file upgrades to program in upgraded device setup codes. These remotes ALSO come with the JP-1 connector that John spoke of. If you read this post from the beginning, you'd know that UEIC does not currently have a device upgrade code that includes the elusive component 1&2 inputs. However I am working on getting a BETA or test version that MAY eventually become available for AT LEAST modem upgradeable remnotes, and possibly SOME mail in models. UEIC wasn't even aware that they could be discretely accessed; however, a JP-1 user did discover them. He's posted them at the JP-1 files area. Basically anyone with a JP-1 remote can program what he needs into his remote NOW. Othere with RS or OFA upgradeable remotes may at some time in the future be able to have it programmed into thiers by RS or UEIC support. UNTIL the beta testing is finished, it isn't available that way, and it's unknown exactly which remotes they will do it for. They don't have the code designed yet, the reason for the beta testing. I haven't received the beta version yet, so at this point the entire project is on hold. I do have 3 people willing to participate in this beta test; all three with different panny models, but all three with 1994 remotes. The beta code could be modified for any other UEIC (RS or OFA, or rca RCU-810) remotes for this beta testing. I suspect your friends 2104 didn't access the discrete Video 4 as well.

The direct answer now is, even if you had a 8910 (or any other modem upgradeable ueic remote) you can't get it upgraded by RS or UEIC to get what you want; they don't have a known working setup code to give you. The beta testing may provide that at some future date. If you were to get a JP-1 remote, the cable, software, etc., you could volunteer for the beta testing. Or, you could just use what's already available to JP-1 group members now, or both.
As you've read, the listed remotes DO NOT have TV_0637 preinstalled. At this point, I don't know of ANY in which they are pre-installed, nobody's reported it being in their model. MX-500 and pronto owners don't have it, it's NOT on an original remote, and strict learners can't learn something they aren't given. Right now, just JP-1 remote users CAN put it in their remotes. Pronto and MX-500 owners could do the same and learn those commands to their learners.
