Hi all. I'm planning to buy a Hitachi 57UWX20B as soon as I can get my hands on one. I noticed on Hitachi's web page for this TV ([Link: hitachi.com]) that the model will support discrete on/off codes. Looking through the on-line version of the manual, I wasn't able to find any info. I'm hoping to program the codes into my Sony AV3000 remote using a Radio Shack 15-2104 remote.

Hitachi's web site has a generic IR code list for their TV's, with ON as 50AF 3EC1 and OFF as 50AF 3FC0, but nothing in a device code/button code format. How can I convert this to a usable format for the Radio Shack remote?

Thanks in advance for any help.

First things first, have you found a setup code in the 15-2104 that works this device? If we know the setup code, we can convert the hex commands into advanced codes for you.

Thanks for the help. I will send out an update once I'm able to try this out (waiting on Sears at this point).

Great news. I finally got my Hitachi 57UWX20B today, and I can confirm that the discrete on and off codes do work on this year's models. Thanks again for the help.

Can someone please describe the steps for entering the EFC's (022 and 026) for the Hitachi into the Radioshack 2104 remote via the keypad.

Thanks,

Jester

Jester,

Gee, you've been getting around. Do yourself a favor. The 2104 is similar to the 1994 in how it works, go to Rob's site, and print the unofficial manual he has there for the 1994. Everything you can do with your remote manually can be found in his manual. www.hifi-remote.com. It's under the section about programming advanced codes (that's efc's). You'll read a procedure that uses 994 commands; that'll tell you how in nice easy steps.

Jim,

Thanks! 2104 works like 1994. That is the magic bit of info I was missing. I am all set.

Jester.

A couple of things to add about EFC's. I have the URC-8811 remote (should be similar to the Radio Shack 2104) and a Hitachi projection TV using code 0145.

I did some searching for useful advanced codes, and the one useful one that hasn't yet been mentioned is code 252 (edited: I originally wrote code 0252; 252 is correct) which puts you into the service menu (if you don't know what you're doing in there, don't attept to get in; this lets you get in without going through the power button/input button machinations).

I'm not sure what "C.S." (EFC 020) means for Toshibas, but EFC 020 switches the Hitachi between the "virtual HD" modes (540P and 1080i).

I also have a word or two of caution: be careful if you search for advanced codes since some of them can do potentially damaging things (for example, one code set the contrast to maximum, which can cause rapid burn-in of the set) or just annoying things (like setting tint to minimum or bass to maximum). Sorry that I didn't keep track of the #'s of all of those since I was too busy trying to fix the havoc I had caused.

I have heard horror stories of some people finding codes that empty the TVs EEPROM of all it's memory, and the only way to get it re-programmed was to send the set back to the factory, which I'm sure cost a few bucks!
