I finally got a response from OneForAll that the device code 869 controls my GI 4DTV BUT there are no extended function codes!

Is anyone using this remote (URC-8080) with a 4DTV and if so how?

Have you considered doing a search for advanced
codes manually? It's not hard, as long as you
have a modicum of patience.

I did a search for advanced codes manually and found NONE!

Does this mean I have to send it in for an upgrade?

GI's 4DTV has been out in the market for over 2 years and OneForAll has NO advanced codes for it?

If you have your remote working the basic functions for the 4DTV and are only wanting a few extra functions from the TV's original remote, then LEARN them.

I've never heard of a 4DTV until someone first mentioned it in a forum on remotecentral. Consider yourself lucky that you at least found some control over it on your remote. If you contemplate the total number of electronic remote controllable devices out there then you must admit it's pretty amazing that so many ARE supported.

Lastly, there may simply be NO extra features on your TV for the remote to find. I've got a panasonic VCR like that. I have a device code that mimics every button from the original remote, but nothing else available to add. Should I be dissapointed? I was, a little, until I remembered that the VCR was still doing everything it promised to do in it's user manual. So if the 869 code lets you turn your TV on and off, mute it, change the channel, change the volume level, and change inputs (if there is more than one) then I'd say "Be happy. We're not all so lucky.".

This remote does not learn! URC-8080

4DTV is a satellite rcvr NOT a TV. I'm not looking for extra features.. just a couple more that are present on the 4DTV remote.

After all I purchased this remote to REPLACE my existing ones!

I still would like to know if anyone out there is using this remote with their 4DTV before I send it in to be 'upgraded'.

Thank you John. I had no idea what a 4DTV was. I also have no idea what an 8080 looks like or what it's limitations are.

Don't send it back for an upgrade. Get your money back. I've never seen a universal remote without some learning ability that was worth the packaging it came in. Try a Radio Shack or Cinema6 or Cinema7. They'll have the basic functions and you can teach them the rest.

I agree with David. And one more thing about the Radio Shack 15-1994 and Cinema 7. You can apply learning to (almost) all the keys, not just the ones labeled 1L, 2L, 3L, and 4L.

A fellow with a RCA satalite receiver e-mailed me stating he couldn't get any advanced codes working for his missing functions; so he returned his Cinema 7 because he thought he only had 4 learning buttons available!

John: There are a very small number of device codes whose IR key function signals cannot be represented in the format used by One for All's "advanced code" feature. In these cases, you are limited to what was preprogrammed into the remote. I suspect your 4DTV is one of these.

So when One for All says they they "have no advanced codes", it isn't that they don't know what the IR signal looks like for the other keys, just that there is no way to externally program it. This would also explain why your manual search came up empty.

Like David & Gerard say, your best bet is almost certainly a learner.
