Gang,

I was hoping someone could show me how to turn my new Xbox on and off with the 1994. I do not have the DVD package, which includes a remote, and I do not even know if without that package the machines sees IR signals, but I suspect it does.

Anyone have any experience or ideas?

Thanks

You need the remote package because it includes the IR sensor, but once you have it hooked up, you can use your 15-1994 with code DVD/0522

to turn on or off your Xbox, you have to use the small button on the box itself. It can't be turn on or off with a remote.

If anyone figures out how to turn the Xbox on and off by the remote post it here and let me know. With the help of this forum, and specifically Rob (AKA god of the 1994), the only time I have to get off of my ass is when I change a disc (movie or game).

Hopefully, I will not have to get a 12 foot dowel or the like to push that little Xbox on/off button. ;-)

Amen! :)

If you really want to be able to turn the xbox on and off from the remote, and the device doesn't let you do this, it's time to invest in some X10 gear. You can pick up an IR543 box for somewhere between $20 and $30, and you'll also need an appliance module which'll run ya about $13. The 15-1994 is also ready programmed to work the IR543 using 0167 with the Plug & Play button.

My Sony CD player will only turn on and off using the push button on the player itself, so I use X10 to control it.

X-10 and I have a close relationship. Just about all of my lights and some other stuff are magically controlled. Christmas was great. I had about 20 window candles, the tree, a village and several strings of lights on banisters all on the same unit code. Visitors first flipped out, then wanted the same thing for their house, and finally became more convinced of my insanity.

I do not think the x-10 solution will work for the Xbox, as the switch is not a two-position switch (in for on/out for off). It will go off (it has to), but probably not power back up. Also, the Xbox has a disk drive and writes to it quite a lot. I'm not so sure cutting power to the thing won't cause big problems.

Any other ideas? Anyone know where I can get a 12 ft. dowel? Ebay, etc? What do you figure the shipping on that would be? Don’t tell me to get off of my ass and go to the hardware store. ;-)

I know from EXTREMELY reliable sources that the Xbox can not be turned off remotely at all. I tried to tackle this one a while back. There are probably better geek pursuits than this one if you are looking to make some progress... Good luck!

Actually the xbox can be turned off, just not on via remote. However....there's always a however, you must install a mod chip and evolution x software. There is also a media player based on windows that allows you to play divx and almost any other format through your xbox. I currently stream via network cable divx rips of movies w/ac3 5.1 surround sound. If NE1 needs some info feel free to ask.

You can turn your Xbox on/off with a remote. Here are some sites to help you out.
