That's interesting. This was tried many times
using the 15-1994 and other remotes and it never
worked, so I'm surprised that it does work on
the 15-2104. Good find. Have you also tried
doing this with key moves?

Haven't tried key moves yet, I'll try to test that out in the next couple of days. I did the learn thing before I'd built a jp1 and was just experimenting with the remote, and figured I'd give it a shot. It definitely worked though, I still have it set up that way.

Ok, I'm assuming by "key moves" you mean the copy one key to another using the 994 stuff. (I'm still new here and haven't quite caught all the lingo). If so, that appears to work fine too. I might stick with using the learned code myself for now since I'm far shorter on space in advanced code than I am in the learned spot, but it appears that doing it either way works.

The 2004 is the first remote that actually controlled both my old 80's Wards tv and my dishnetwork 3000 receiver. Overall, I'm satisfied with it. I have programed the Power key to turn on several units by just holding it down, altho it can get out of sync - if say the tv is already on, holding down the Power key will turn on units that are off, and turn off units that are already on.
It isn't clear how the genre buttons select more than one macro - I suppose you have to press the button more than once and cycle through what you've programmed into it.
Nice to hear the chip used is the same as the 1994 - I plan on getting a cable and playing around with the remote some more.
My biggest gripe with the remote is the dark legends on the keypads. Almost impossible to read in a darkened room altho I had no trouble with volume or channel changing. I have to turn on the backlight in order to find the menu or guide keys for my sat receiver.

Buy the 1994 before it's too late. The 2104 is a step backwards. Some buttons stick, some don't. No consistency in pressure required to activate button.
Not feasible to stack commands because the "P" button is recessed. Other shortcomings, but these two are enough for me.

I've found that just learning the volume up, down,
and mute commands from the receiver remote into
the tv's buttons for those commands works nicely.
Because the other devices punch through to the
tv, it then causes them to use the learned commands.

Hey gschrock - a little help for a newby please. Will learning the button as you describe, allow me to adjust volume and mute while in AUX mode, Showstopper is located?

Obviously, this isn't a good choice if you need
lots of space for learned commands, but so far,
using the JP1 stuff,

Don't have the JP1 but have learned "instant replay", "quick skip" and "return to live" to the s1,s2 & s3 keys. Will I have enough space for the above?

Thanks

Hmm, to be honest, I'm not really sure. For me the AUX is my receiver, so it's already controlling the volume on the device I wanted. Based on the breakdown that's been listed for what the VPT works, my guess is probably not, and that you'd have to learn it to the AUX also.

As far as whether you'd have room, if all you have is those 3 commands learned, probably. I don't really recall what the number of commands you can learn is, but I think it's at least 10-15 or so. Or use the advanced code stuff to assign the advanced code to the keys, if you haven't used many of those it should work too.

Personally I'd recommend building the JP1 cable. Trying to press that stupid shift/program key is annoying, and it's so much easier to get everything in correctly in IR.exe.

I'm new to this. Was going to get a 1994, but allas, had to buy the 2104. So far, I like it. Before I make a jump into JP1, I'm going to push the remote as far as I can by advanced and learned codes.

One of my questions is that everyone refers to the memory. I've put TONS of codes in my remote (because the 4 diget codes stink, and I've got new equipment) and so far it is holding them all. How do you know how much memory is left?

Secondly, can anyone get the 994 command to clear a button. Basically, I've got some functions that defaulted to various locations that do not make sense. So, I programmed the advanced codes to the buttons I like. I then want to clear the old button, but it does not seem to work. After running the clear command (I referenced the old 1994 method), the command is still present. Also, if you can clear the command, does this free up memory in the remote?

Finally, has anyone played with the Theater feature? I have not tackled it, but the directions stink for this. Does it only work with the four "smart" keys, or can I add theater functions by programing regular keys?

That is enough for now. I'm sure I'm going to be asking a lot of questions.

Thanks.

Derek

My experience with the 2104 was that some of the buttons were flawed. The up and right arrow keys on 2 different units from 2 different stores did not always work with Dish and ReplayTV and when they did they were very slow in reacting.

I just picked up a 2103 (I only need 5 devices) and don't see any JP1 connector in the battery area. Is the JP1 connector only available in the 2104?
