Is there an FAQ or website that has all of the information NOT available through OFA regarding the Cinema 7? I have been scanning through the forum picking up tidbits of info. Is there a central repository for all this good stuff?

Mr. Pinzone,

Is there an FAQ like you suggest? Not that I
know of, but there should be. It's an excellent
idea. And this web site would probably make a
nice home for it. (You listening, Mr. Tonks?)
Now you just need to find someone willing to
write and maintain it. Good luck on that front.
Perhaps YOU would be interested in the job. :)

I forgot to mention that, though there is no FAQ
like the one you suggest, there IS an interesting
web page at [Link: John-Wasser.com] with
some stuff you won't find anywhere else.

Tell you what, I've got some web space. I'll even put it together. All I need is usefull info. I do NOT want to rehash all of the info (e.g., the manual) available on the web from OFA. I would like to include stuff like the advanced codes, the fact that you can program macros and learning on almost ANY button, the existance of the RS remote, the REAL e-mail addresses to get advanced codes, the fix for the dishplayer problems, etc...

Sounds like a plan. I'll offer the first
information donation. Someone on this forum was
once trying to find a way to insert a delay in a
macro without wasting a lot of macro steps, and
an original suggestion was made by someone
identifying himself as "alfaman", which I will
quote here:

>For the best delay, use the Zenith VCR (code
>0039) "record" button. (As a safety feature,
>some Zenith models require that you hold the
>record key for 3 to 4 seconds, and the Cinema 7
>will reproduce this when it plays back the
>macro.)
>
>BTW, you don't have to waste a whole device page
>to do this. Set up to 0039, copy (994) the VCR
>record button to the record key in some other
>mode where it is unused -- CD for example - -
>then set your VCR back to what you want. The
>Zenith code will "stick" on the CD record key,
>even when you change the VCR to a different
>brand. The only trick is that you MUST put the
>Zenith code on the "record" button to get the
>long delay.

I haven't actually tried this, but is this the
kind of trick you're looking for?

Yeah sure. I'm gonna try to compile this stuff and slap up a page.

BTW, there's a page on John Wasser's site that seems to go unnoticed: [Link: people.ne.mediaone.net] It's perfect reading for those who need to scan for advanced codes.

I picked up the RS 15-1994 today it it looks real sweet, but it's a bit harder to handle than a Cinema 7 IMHO. I put in the code for my TV and the up/down/left/right menu keys were mapped to the channel +/- and volume +/- respectively! I just plugged in the advanced codes to rectify the situation, but man...if I just bought that darn thing and tried it without knowledge of advanced codes, I'd be pretty pissed.

It didn't go unnoticed by me. That page is the
main reason I recommended the site. I even used
some info on that page to write OBC-to-EFC and
EFC-to-OBC translator programs for my HP48G
calculator. :)

About the failings of the 15-1994, yes, it's
weird stuff like that that causes a large portion
of the returns of these kinds of remotes, as I
understand it. They can do almost anything, but
the advanced features tend to either go unnoticed
by the average consumer, or serve only to
intimidate them.

Very good, I hope this FAQ comes earlier.

Anyway, do you think you can include methods to clear a mapped button? To be more specific, how to clear a shift-mapped button? I am currently experimenting different method but without success.

Think you can help?

Also, re: Section 2.9, you mentioned that the code for Pioneer DV-525 is 0503, but I tried that but that does not work, can't even turn on the machine. Therefore I think you should change it to 0525

Yep, I caught that mistake in the 1.02 version available now:

[Link: ampersand.hypermart.net]

Clearing out a key is included in the manual: [Link: hudsonag.com]

I assume you would clear a shifted key the same way you clear a regular key but with the MAGIC key thrown in. (Just like defining the key). In fact, it seems that clearing out anything is just doing whatever command you did to set it in the first place and jelecting that item twice.

Wow! That FAQ looks really great! I might even resurrect my Cinema 7 now that you have a page that will accumulate info on it. I would really like to see a page on the Home Producer 8, as that is the unit I am presently using, mainly because of its UHF ability and backlit keypad. I know, I know, now everyone will ask for a page on the model thay are using, but your idea is so good that it merits consideration. At any rate, keep up the good work!

Well, you guessed it if you read this far down, we are 1.03 :)

[Link: ampersand.hypermart.net]

I dunno anything about that model. If someone wants to pick up the gauntlet and write one for the Home Producer 8...either that or send me one for free to play with ;)
