Tivo on Producer 8 missing some commands?

I just sent in my OFA home producer 8 8090b2 (I think) to have it upgraded for use with my Tivo, but I am only getting some of the commands. I get Ch-+, numbers, Tivo (as menu), FF, RW, and Pause, but I can't seem to find anything else such as the arrow keys, or live TV. Obviously the Tivo is useless without these. Does anyone know where they are mapped, or if they are an advanced code or what? I am a avid Pronto user, but I don't really know that much about the home producer, and I can't seem the find the manual.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Wayne

Does anyone know anything about this?

As you have found, the official UEIC TiVo code is pretty useless, it's missing mny buttons and it doesn't support advanced codes.

So does this mean that they do not give most of the commands? I can't even do basic work with the think without the arrow keys. Are they someplace else and I just can't find them?

Got this message back from UEIC:

hello,

We do not have the advanced functions under this code at the moment. please do check with us once a month to find out if we have information on that or not. thank you

Wayne,

Check out my messages here: [Link: remotecentral.com]

I've found another universal remote which I've been able to reprogram all the (Philips) Tivo controls in quite effectively, although I do need to use the shift key for the arrows.

I had some pull with One-For-All, having written a magazine review of the URC9800. After getting the upgrade and sending a number of Emails, I received a response to the effect that some of the TiVo codes were incompatible with the Producer (essentially the TiVo required sequences the Producer couldn't generate). I'm sure they'll correct this is new products, but the Producer was designed before the TiVo, I guess.

oh - you can sue the Learning Keys to cover 6 of the non-mapped keys on the TiVo

Just FYI, all this stuff about some of the TiVo buttons being incompatible or whatever is complete garbage! Trust me, I know. We in the hacking world have created our own TiVo code to run on the 15-1994 remote with all the buttons mapped and it works perfectly.

It's true that the Philips signal is slightly different from the norm, but only slightly.

It's a variation on the standard NEC1 protocol that about 80% of remotes use, the ONLY difference being that they have overlaid the first four bits of the command code compliment with the system code, that's it! I've seen some posts about the buttons using a strange frequency, more BS, they are all 38.1 kHz, totally normal.

And in fact, even if UEIC had a problem creating this new protocol (which is really easy, trust me), they could just create the signal using the standard NEC1 protocol. I know this for a fact, because I've done it. It works as long as the TiVo is in the default "remote 0" mode. It works because the TiVo just assumes that the stange values that it finds int he part of the signal that should carry the system code, are just that, system codes, and when the TiVo is in "remote 0" mode, it will accept each and every system code.

Rob,
what you say makes sense, so if that is the case, and I build the "box" that is talked about on some of the sites, can I actually use my Tivo with the Producer 8? I know you have done most of what you have done becuase Radio Shack does not upgrade, so does all this work on the OFA remotes? Also, are the codes available?

You could certainly program a 15-1994 or an OFA Cinema 7 to work TiVo. I haven't finalized the decoding of the Producer 8's memory yet, so our software doesn't support upgrading that one yet.

Rob.
