I have a RS 15-1994 and Sherwood Rcvr. I had to use learning for the device code since it is not already programmed in this unit. Once the remote has learned the device code will it accept the advanced codes or must those functions also be learned?

No. Advanced codes will only work for device codes that are in the ROM library or the eeprom upgrade section. Learning memory doesn't count. I created a 0491 upgrade code for Sherwood receivers, that you can add to the upgrade memory of your 15-1994 using the homemade interface you can build.
