"9-7-5 doesn't seem to work"
hi all. I just bought this remote yesterday. All worked fine until I tried to program one of the learning keys to take care of a function the didn't bridge over from my digital cable (program info). When I finish pressing 9-7-5 I don't get 2 blinks, and the button isn't "learned". Has anyone else run into this problem ?

Is "this remote" a learning remote?

sorry I didn't clarify earlier ... it's the Cinema 7 (7800) with the 1L, 2L, 3L, 4L "learning" buttons. The only suggestion I have seen to fix the problem would be to use the 9-8-0 code to clear out the memory, but I can't imagine the memory was filled ....... I haven't done anything with the remote aside from programming in my Cable, DVD, Rcvr, TV codes in.

Hello Steve, I can understand because I have the same problem. Maybe there is something going on with these remotes being made now. Of course you can use one of the four smart buttons, but you also should be able to use most of the other non device buttons as well! I can learn from all of my remotes except my Onkyo ones. If you find anything out, let me know. Does anyone know the helpline number or email address of Cinema 7?
I tried the ones in the book and got no response.
Good Luck to you!

actually, the problem isn't with programming *any* of the non-device buttons for a new function. I don't have the use of the 4 "smart buttons" either. ah well ...

A couple of suggestions I have seen work

1) make sure you have brand new fresh batteries with lots of juice - the C7 seems to need more juice to learn than for other functions

2) Try varying the distance between the remotes if a few inches doesn't work try a foot or so

3) Some codes are just hard to learn - see if the remote can learn any codes from your other remotes - try for instance learning the 1 button from your TV remote onto the 1 L key and see if that works.

Also make sure to get the FAQ and improved manual from www.hifi-remote.com, with advanced codes you may not need to learn at all.

Steve,

Jim is correct: The C7 will not learn if the battery voltage is low, even if the other functions still appear to operate normally. So be sure you have fresh batteries in it. If that doesn't work, since your remote is brand new it may be that it simply has a defective non-volatile memory. To test the memory on a unit that won't learn, do this: Pop one of the batteries, then press a few keys to make sure everything's discharged (or just let it sit for a while with the battery out) and then replace the battery while watching the red LED. If everything is normal you should see a double blink after a short pause. If you see a long single "error" blink instead, perform a master reset (9-8-1) and repeat the test. If you still get the error blink on this second try your remote very likely has a bad memory, take the unit back and exchange it.
