I've never heard of a 1945 before, where did you get it and what does it look like?

Was this may be a 15-1994?

Anyhow, discrete on and off means having separate codes for turning power on and off, instead of one code that just toggles power on and off. The advantage of a discrete code is that you can include it in a macro and it won't matter what state the unit is in.

For instance, you might have a macro to set your system up for watching a DVD. It would turn the DVD on, turn your receiver on, select the dvd input on the receiver, and whatever else it needed to do. If you have a discrete ON code for the DVD, it will turn the DVD on if it is off, but will have no effect if it is already on. If all you have is a toggle power code, it will turn it on if it is off, but if it is already on it will turn it off, which is not what you wanted.

Yes you are right my mistatke a Radio Shack 15-1994!

Oh I understand now...I printed off the list of discrete codes and I will need to try them then....I do have a macro just like you described. And it will do exactly that when the tv is on it will turn it off which is not what I wanted to do....so thanx for the explaination.
