I have a Cinema 7 and have used the Key Mover command many times, mostly to assign Advanced Function codes to buttons. I've occasionally used Key Mover to "copy" a button from one device to another, e.g. copying RCVR Vol+ to AUX Vol+, etc. when Punch Thru didn't work in AUX mode. But I just wonder... does the C7 actually move "everything" about the 1st button when it moves it to the 2nd button, or does it just move a "pointer" or a "reference" to the 1st button into the 2nd button?

In other words, can I actually control 8 (or more) devices with my C7? For example, could I program the AUX mode with a Device Code for, let's say, a cable box and then use Key Mover to move the cable box's Power On/Off button to an unused button on the TV mode... and then reprogram the AUX mode to be something else, like a different VCR?

I have not tried it, but I assume I could accomplish the above by "learning" the cable box's power on/off directly to the unused button in TV mode... is that right? But it would take up valuable learning memory (which is full on my ReplayTV-crippled C7).

Yes you can move the Cable box power key to the TV group, and then change the aux device to something else.

The 994 command creates a small list in the C7 memory, the first two bytes indicate the button and device key you are copying/storing into, the next three bytes indicate the device type copied from, the specific device code that was assigned to the device at the time you created the assignment, and the data to transmit. The device code that was copied does not need to remain assigned to any device key.

The Cinema 7 has room to store about 45 key moves if you do not have any macros programmed. Learned codes are in a separate area, so they don't take memory away from the advanced codes/macros.

There is a group of people who have been able to add device codes (like ReplayTV and Tivo) to the Cinema 7 and Rs 15-1994. Check this forum for threads about the JP1 interface or JP1 box, or look at Rob Crowes website [Link: hifi-remote.com]

Donald, thanks! That is incredible news (moving buttons then re-assigning the original device!) I had never heard this before (or maybe it just didn't sink in).

I was looking at a OFA remote today at Best Buy called the 4-device "Video Expert". Somebody had returned it and it was taped shut... but I could still "wiggle" the manual (one folded sheet) out of the box and take a peek. It supports something that I thought was kinda cool, called a "Video Config". It appears that this is an extra Device button, like TV, VCR, AUX, etc., that you can assign a "hodge podge" of controls to, but you do it in chunks. You can assign the volume chunk (vol+/- and mute) to the Video Config button (for example) from the TV device, then the transport controls from the VCR device, etc. by using a Control Group code. I liked the idea of this. I think there were 4 or 5 group codes, for sections like the Menu navigation chunk, the PIP chunk, etc. In other words, it sounds like a real memory-saver... instead of doing this with advanced codes you could use the new V.Config button and command (9-7-9 as I recall). Sounds like OFA has a lot of really nifty ideas up their sleeves to help the "hacker"!

I'm r-e-a-l-l-y tempted to try the JP1 cable. Don't have a soldered connector in my C7 :( though. Makes me really hesitant to take it apart (although I don't mind monkeying with my PC ports).
