I have the Denon DVM-1800 DVD Changer. I am trying to find the ON and OFF discrete codes for my radio shack 15-1994 remote. What I am really trying to do is program my Denon remote that came with my AVR3801 receiver - but it doesn't take discrete codes. So I am programming the radio shack remote with them, and then having my Denon remote learn them. Quite a handy tool the rs remote is!

I found where you set the device to a CD player, and then use device code 0004 (or something like that). I can use all of the advance codes for that device number - but I couldn't find discrete ON and OFF by trying every friggin' code from 001 - 255. This would really help me out with my macros, as everything else in my system has the discrete ON and OFF. Does this DVD player not have discrete ON and OFF?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bryan

Don't know about that particular player, but many of them don't have discrete on and off codes.

Sometimes you can find another code that does turn the unit on. PLAY does this for many of them - if off it will turn on then start play; if on it will just start play. Thus a PLAY-POWER combination in a macro could server as a discrete OFF, and a PLAY-STOP could serve as a discrete ON.

Good Thinking! I didn't think about the two key combinations - make sure the DVD player is on (by pressing play) before you send the power command to turn it off. I believe that pressing play on the remote will start the unit playing.

I will try that out tonight!

Thanks,
Bryan

Makai Guy,

It worked! Thanks for the suggestion. I had to add some delays in - because my DVD player takes a few seconds to spin up and respond to the second command. So, for power off I do a play, and then hit stop 5 times and hit power off. For power on, I do a play, and then hit stop 5 times. It works perfectly! It freaked my wife out though - cause she the hit the system off button and the DVD player came on for a second. I had to explain to her how it worked.

One other thing I noticed was that in the Pronto forum there was a file for a Denon DVD player with Discrete On and Off. I can't remember what DVD player that was for, and am wondering how I could possibly get the codes from that converted to an advanced code for my radio shack remote. It may not be possible, but just curious.

Thanks,
Bryan

Kewl! I was just throwing out a theoretical solution, kinda neat to hear it actually worked!

I plan on using Makai Guy's trick on my Samsung 709 DVD too.

I just looked at one of the Denon ccf's, and found discrete power codes in it for the dvd. they are decimal values 62 (on) and 63 (off). You should be able to try them on the 1994 by selecting the DVD player and then pressing P 195 for on, and P 187 for off (195 is the EFC for 62, 187 is EFC for 63). If these work you can store them on buttons with a sequence like CD P** 994 ** P 195 POWER **. (this assumes the DVD is on the CD button, and you are assigning the ON code to the POWER button).

You can also assign codes to shifted buttons which is useful for functions that you only need to access in macros.

Regarding the earlier message about delay in the macro, do you know about the "Zenith VCR Trick", it's mentioned in the FAQ on my site, it might be better than adding 4 or 5 STOP presses, and it will use up less memory too.

Donald,

How did you come up with those numbers? Also, what device code would they be under? You probably can't tell - can you?

They didn't work for me. It doesn't mean they aren't correct, but they could be under some other device code that I don't have set up.

Does anyone know if the Denon Atkis has Discrete codes for their DVD players? If so, maybe I will just go to me dealer here and learn them into my RS remote!

Bryan
