I see the subject of discrete power codes for the Sony C600D DVD player has been discussed in the past, with no resolution (other than being listed on the TOAD list.)

1. I can fake a discrete 'ON' by using the code for the play command. The downside to this is that the disc immediately begins playing, but that's going to be the compromise.

2. The code 109 'off' command that works to turn off almost all Sony devices does have some effect on this DVD player — the unit flashes an "OFF" message for a few seconds, but the other display characters (and the blue Dolby light) only dim momentarily, but then come right back to life. The display flashes "OFF" for a few more seconds, but then eventually returns to a normal on state.

3. I owned a Sony STR-DE925 reciever up until a few months ago. The remote that came with the receiver had a "System Standby" button that switched off all of my Sony components (TV, RCVR, DVD & VCR). This provided a discrete OFF command the the DVD player, so the capability definitely exists.

Tonight I went to The Good Guys to try to learn this magic code into my C7 remote. Unfortunately, Sony has modified the remote (the 3 line lcd display model) and has done away with the seperate "Standby" button.

If someone has access to one of these older Sony remotes (came with the 825 and 925 receivers), we'll have access to the code in question.

I have the code for the Pronto, but I'm not sure a OFA version has been located.

I'm sure the UEIC version of it exists somewhere, it's just that my fingers are getting tired and the buttons are getting worn out.

Well, it's Sony device code 4, command 55. Advanced code should be 045 or 037.

However, I can't seem to find what device code "4" relates to. It's not CD1/2/3, DAT, DSS, DVD, LD, MD, Preamp, Projector, TV, VCR1/2/3, etc.

I wonder if it isn't a "unversal" device code Sony threw together to control an entire system with just one command.

I've built a black box for my C7. I'm guess I'm going to wade through all the material on protocols and see if I can't decipher this one.
